Hello fellow DSM'rs,

Yes, I know I posted previously. This is unrelated. Just picked up the car a month ago and now working through the issues and doing maintenance.

But upon pulling my codes with the logger found that there is a Code 24 for the Speed Sensor (Reed Switch). I know that it's located in or behind the gauge cluster.

I do experience some of the symptoms (http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/103815-speed-control-sensor-reed-switch.html) I've found of a it malfunctioning some yes can be an intake leak which will be searching for this next week when I get off work. Timing and Idle have been adjusted, no A/C on car (deleted), ISC works fine, throttle is spotless (was cleaned about 10k ago), speedometer increases smoothly and operates, it is twitchy when CC is being used at any speed all cables are adjusted correctly and nuts tightened.

My question's are. Is it possible to repair the switch by replacing it with a new one? If not what is an alternative repair? If the alternative is buying a new gauge cluster how can I test the (used) cluster to make sure that Reed Switch is working? Where exactly is the Reed Switch located (pics)?

I have a 1990 so my speedometer is in 5mph increments, and finding a replacement has been already very difficult. So a repair is seeming to be more practical. The mileage on my odometer is 204k but engine and transmission have less, and it's mileage exempt so don't really mind getting a new cluster, but really don't want the hassle with any future records or transactions.

Thank you for your time and any response's.

Well, my search results yielded no help because issue was never updated in other posts. I contacted the mitsubishi services department with my issue.

They were able to show me a drawing of where the reed switch was located on the back of the speedometer and said it was a part that may be replaceable but they were unsure if the part was something they still produced.

I was able to also do my boost leak check. Results were better then I thought. Only the emission vacuum lines behind the engine were leaking slowly. So will be doing an emission delete in next week and replacing the other hoses.

I will keep this updated as I find out more and set it as resolved whem it's resolved.

Oops, never updated it. Upon further investigation of the Reed switch found that if you were able to find a producer or new switch that you can replace it. Or if not find a working used switch on a donor cluster. It's located behind the consoul wrapped around the input of the Speedometer.

As for the Vacuum leak. Deleted the lines and was pretty air tight. Just slowly leaked air

I replaced the reed switch in my Colt cluster, but when I was in there I noticed paint on one of the connections where the reed switch screws onto the contacts. I figure that was probably the cause of the intermittent loss of signal; I don't think that's something that goes bad much.

I would mention that I have a spare 1g turbo DSM cluster laying around, but I'm not sure that's allowed here.
