My clutch started slipping tonight, very sad day, whenever I push it under 4k rpms so instead of getting dsmlink like I wanted now I gotta replace the clutch and I was wondering whats everyone's opinion on the clutches and which ones some prefer for the price compared to others

I put in a Clutchmasters FX300 two weeks ago. LOVE IT! Very driveable on the street and clamps like a champ! Whatever you decide on dont order from slowboy. Took em a week to just ship my clutch out, another week to deliver it :(

SOUTH BEND FOR THE WIN!

great prices, beats most competitors prices any day. I paid around 315 shipped for the pressure plate and friction disc. They even let me op out for the TOB since I wanted and had an OEM one already. Other companies, clutch master, competition sell packages so the TOB is included (plus I only use OEM TOB). I shopped around for a week and the companies I mentioned above, charge and average 100 more than Southbend. They are also based in the US so shipping was fast and direct.

Running the South Bend TZ Kit: HD Stage 2, its a stock pressure plate feel with a Kevlar disc (my dsm is my daily right now). Grips great, it actually get stickier the more I shift. I am running it with a dogbox racing stage 2 build and the combination is fantastic.

TOB = Throwout bearing

In the clutch system, the bearing that can be moved inward to the release levers and the clutch=pedal action to cause declutching, which disengages the engine crankshaft from the transmission. A common name for a clutch release bearing.

So another words it is what is used to press on the diaphragm spring to release the clutch disc from the pressure plate and flywheel. It spins while doing this, allowing the crank to still spin.

Called a TOB because most people throw it out when they change the clutch, just use a new one.

The quality looked great, if you do order the kevlar disc, it is made by exedy, when I was examining the friction disc I saw the logo stamped on. check them out: http://southbendclutch.com/

There is a whole video series on how to remove your transmission and change the clutch from a fellow dsmer.

It shouldn't take long to do a clutch change, it's just those who are mechanically inclined should allow themselves extra time in case anything goes wrong.

Like the video I linked, the dsmer encounter a stuck clutch on the input shaft which cost him hours if not minutes to remove it. Of course he was experienced so he knew what to do to tackle the situation.

It's all about have a plan before you tackle the problem and having a backup plan in case something bad happens. So that's why I said to allow yourself at least a weekend to allow room for mistakes. :thumb:

Or you could find a reliable non shady dsmer around your area and tackle the job with ease. :)

makes sense problem is I only have 2 open days during the week. Also it seems changing the clutch leaves a lot of room for error with the "jesus pin" disconnecting a good portion of the engine bay etc etc

I've seen several people with this braided style of engine bay 'hoses/lines'. Where would one buy a kit or individual pieces?

(I am referring to for example: his coolant line)

True, I am more mechanically inclined but still paranoia gets me at times

Sorry for the double post but is it better to get a clutch kit or buy the parts seperate?

I just purchased the act 2100 kit. Comes with the alignment tool and TOB.
