checklist for a field car...

so i drug a bunch of DSM's out of a farmers field a couple years back, most of them i have parted ways with after getting them into running condition. 1 of them was a wrecked car so it was parted out/blown up/crushed. the last one i have left are my 91 1g i am building a stroker for. this thread is NOT about that car.

i also have a 95 2g TSI, it sat in the field for about 10 years, carpet was trashed from mice, rotting mice, mice feces. original problem seems to have been no maintenance and timing stuff slipped.

things i have now:
used head
flywheel
clutch disk
oem release bearing
oem clutch pivot ball
timing belt
tensioners
waterpump
tires

things i have on order:
top end gasket kit
front main seal kit
rear main seal kit
fuel pump
master and slave cylinder

todo
inspect and flush brake lines (amazingly they all work)
replace clutch and head and timing parts. plus waterpump.

we do not need to go into interior soft parts, i have a milk rate i can use for a chair. anything else you can think of to do or to check or that should just absolutely be replaced to be running?


do not suggest parting out or anything like that. i do not destroy anymore, only restore.

Cheap plastic "Drag seat" Less than $100 new, and a whole lot safer than a milk crate.

A fuel filter could stand to be replaced, along with draining the tank.

For a "toy" car, that sounds like it will not be on the street, sounds like you have most covered.
