does anyone know of a way to lean out my air to fuel ratio with out buying an AFC? anything that i could do with the electronics to make the computer think that i am getting less air than i am? is there anyway to bypass my air flow sensor so it will burn a little lean? by the way i failed on the Hydro Carbons which is just unburnt gas. Any help any of you could give would be great.
 
Mufflers has nothing to do with emmisions. You can use a afc to lean out your car a little, but you have to be really carefull and know what you are doing. This works really well for the awd guys because we dont have to go on the rollers. Just a sniff. Is your cat good? you should be passing with no prob.
 
not necessarily "stevetrbp", i'm having trouble with emissions too. i've failed three times. i have no idea what's wrong. i have a new Jasper engine with 9000 miles on it and a brand new header back exhaust.
 
theres something you can pore in your fuel tank i forget the name of the stuff but after puting it in there run it for a few miles and pop pass with flying colors ask some of the other guys on here about it ....i dont know the name casue i live in fla <no emisions>

try going down to a 1/4 tank of gas then add about two bottles of a high concentrated amount of rubbing alcohol 80% or 90%

remember alcohol makes no emissions

This works if your close to passing. To be exact, go to home depot and buy a gallon of "Denatured Alcohol" aka Methanol. Get your tank close to empty then use the whole can if you like. Just remember to fill er up after the test since this is not good for your rubber hoses. This worked for me last year, I failed the first time too, then passed by doing this.
 
isn't methanol a type of race fuel? my friend was telling me this some time ago, that there's a mix of high octane fuel and methanol that is excellent for high power cars
 
Ok i failed emissions on the HC too Standard it was .800 mine 2.600 i have put 1quart of that denaturated alcohol in it when i had 1/2 tank full and it only lowered it down to 1.900 which still wasnt enough to pass so i dont know if should drive the thing and get pretty low on the tank and drop more of that alcohol in and go try it then. What u guys think?
 
Something else i got an hks open air bov ,would buying a recirculating kit for it help lower the HC , and my oxygen sensor wasnt changed since i got the car which is about 2 years ago. Aprecciate anyones help on this:D . :dsm:
 
that would do it. i bet that is where you are getting your rich from.
you are metering X amount and putting Y amount in the motor

might look for boost least as well
 
how old is your cat? if its kindof old , get urself a newcat.
new spark plugs and plug wires. clean out all the carbon deposits on ur egr valves. spraying your intake manifold with carb cleaner to remove carbon deposits, everything stock? run your car on the highway for like 30mins or so before you go get smogged.
and do a test, always do a test before you do that actual smog.

what else is there........
 
On my old Laser HC's were twice the limit to pass when I went for emissions. I replaced the oxygen sensor and the cat and it 'fast passed'. That fixed it.

BosnianGSX, if you're venting your BOV it's gonna throw unburnt gas out your exhaust, plus your car's gonna run slower than it could be running. Get a recirc kit. Also, go to the emission station at Hwy. 21 & 141 down past South County. I've never failed the test there and one of my cars I was positive would fail.
 
Another thing is if you try anything to tweak the AF ratio and lean it out, your car will be running hotter and you'll probably fail the test for high oxides of nitrogen readings. They only test for NOx if you're in an enhanced test area like Missouri.
 
In addition to the carb cleaner in throttle body, use Seafoam in the pcv vacuum line. Pour it in slowly while car is running until it stalls, then let it sit for about five minutes. Seafoam is available at Advance Auto Parts, but for some reason they seem to place it out of direct view.

Avoid methanol in fuel injected vehicles, it is a wood grain alcohol and is far more corrosive than standard fuels, it will destroy injector seals. Ethanol, however, is permissable.

Back in the day people would put a sponge in the exhaust for emissions. Then take it out afterwards, I don't know if that still works.
 
Use G2P Emissions Passer from checker auto. Its worked on my corolla with no functional catalytic converter, and it worked on my talon (after 2 of them) with a bad O2 sensor, I guarentee it will work, its about $6 a bottle well worth it.
