Is this true and would you do this? On Royal Purple's website it recommends changing Royal Purple engine oil every 12,000mi with filter changes every 3,000 - 4,000mi.

I personally don't know if I myself would do this to my engine. Wouldn't it be better to slowly build up to this recommendation? For example, start with Royal Purple and change it 3,000mi. Then on the next change do it at 5,000mi followed again by 7,000mi until the engine is free from deposits? Will a motor ever really drain clean? On my old car I was using Valvoline Maxlife and after about 2,000mi I would change the oil and it was still pretty clear. Don't get me wrong though because there still was alot of grime draining out.

Feel free to share any information you have regarding Royal Purple. Thanks :thumb:

I use Royal Purple ..... It is a great oil .... But under no circumstances would I change my oil every 12000 miles ....
Change your oil every 2500 miles .

royal purple is good stuff...12000k...umm, nope

and how would u change a filter without changing the oil. wouldnt the oil pour out when you unscrewed the filter anyway?

This would be a good idea of a car that sees a lot of highway miles. My mom drives her 1.8T Jetta a bit over 100 miles a day not including business trips where she takes her car. Using something like Royal Purple or Amsoil would be a good idea if VW didn’t do free oil changes. But I really wouldn’t do that on a sports car or a car that sees a ton of abuse.

the oil wont even start working to its best capabilities until after 2500miles 12000 is max id allow but 7000-8000 is definetly fine. They did a test on a camaro that was beat on for a year while doing these tests.

12k, definitely not, especially people who are venting both pcv and breather to the atmosphere. Come to think of it, don't even waste your money on Purple if that is the case.

i comes to just about the same price as other synthetic oil if you buy it in bulk as ido and the manual suggests 5000 mile oil change

Isn't venting the pcv and breather to atmosphere even better for the engine?
I'm using a GM MAF-T blow thru set-up and was under that impression that it was better to vent both to atmosphere.

A vacuumless system will promote oil contamination. A vented system will do well in relieving crankcase pressure with a healthy motor but will do little to nothing in "BREATHING" (pulling out blow by) of the crankcase, which requires a vacuum source and a fresh air source. This is why oil looks like milk shake in the catch can and you see smoke out of the catch can as well as under the oil cap after runs.

simply put, synthetic oils don't break down as fast as natural oils. The only reason to change synthetic oil at 3k miles is if you are using a regular oil filter. Regular filters aren't good for more than this, but you can do an oil change and put the same oil back in. A much better alternative is to get an oil filter that is good for more miles. K&N, for example, is what I use along with royal purple. I think the K&N filter is good for 10k miles. I use this setup in both of my cars, eclipse and mustang, and change the oil about every 6-8 thousand miles.

side note, some cars, I think BMW's for example, come from the factory with synthetic oil and long life oil filters and are only recommended to have oil changes every 10k miles or more. brand new bimmers are only serviced every 15k!!! (I just looked that up, found it on bmwusa.com for the skeptics.) If it's good enough for a brand new bmw, it's more than likely good enough for me.

I've also read an article (don't remember where) that stated many countries run on 10k mile intervals, not 3k like usa, but they use only sythetic.
