I am living now in Japan and here unfortunately speedcluster max speed is set to 180k/m

I hated that so I ordered an American cluster (Miles/Km) via Ebay, but when I installed it, no backlight on each gauge when i turn the parking light on and more important needles of the tachometer and speedometer are not working.
When I put back the original Japanese cluster everything is going well, so the fuses are ok.

So my guesses are:
The cluster is broken (can it be repaired?)
Or some setting must be done to make it work.

I tried to call a specialist and he told me that maybe since Japanese cars are speed limited to 180k/m the ECU of the car is sending informations to the cluster that are not suitable for the US cluster so both needles are not moving...

He told me that maybe I will have to buy an US ECU to make it work but he cannot guarantee me it will work.

Does anyone know if his theory is correct or not?
I dont want to order an ECU if it is not the cause of the problem...
Or have any idea of how solve this?

The speed limiter in the US (on the cars shipped with H-rated tires) was inside the ECU but that shouldn't be the cause of your cluster issues. What year is your car?

Can you get the wiring diagram for your car and we can compare to the US wiring?

Thanks for the reply!
It is a 1995gst.

I'll try to find that today !

I also tried to ask other jpn eclipse owner.
One told me that if it is the cause, changing the ECU wont change the problem because sensor settings like exhaust gas temp etc are different, he tried before and his car was completly unstable... so he has to put back jpn ECU.

Another one told me that I can try to put only the US speedometer in the JPN cluster.
He did it 10 years ago and it worked for him.
May be the solution to my problem...
I never done that before, I ll have to check that on the net. I hope I wont broke everything trying to...

Ok I tried to put the US speedometer in the JPN cluster, and... It worked !
I think I am going this way lot easier.

Thank again for your help !!

I hope this thread may help someone one day !
