Hi,

I got into an accident last month and my front bumper and driver's fender are a bit damaged. I am trying to remove them and replace them with new but to do so I need to open the hood and get in there to remove some of the screws attaching them. The problem is the hood won't open. I do not seem to reach the latch for it for some reason and I could not open it :(. I was wondering whether there is another way to unbolt the hood temporarity to enter the engine bay area - maybe from the side near the windshield??? Do you have any idea?

Thank you.

I honestly don't know if this is possible in a dsm, but my friend has a celica and his hood wouldnt open so we got under the car and looped some thick wire around the latch and popped it open that way.
if its possible in our cars then you can try that. i hope i helped, if not sorry i wasted your time.

Well I haven't tried anything yet but I will have to check the options because when I feel under the hood I could not touch the latch and the cable that opens the latch is possibly torn because when I pull from inside the car it does not work as it did before :(

You should try having someone pull on the hood release in the car while you pull up on the hood. my front end was damaged and I couldn't get to my hood for a little while and I tried that, and it worked. good luck

Jack the front end and get someone with smaller arms to reach up with a screwdriver to pry it... assuming you have a turbo, you can probably reach it from the passenger side of the turbo gap, if you push the intake snorkel toward the engine. Unfortunately, there's no *easy* way to get at the latch (on the 1ga anyway) without having the hood open, or the front garnish off. And you have to have the hood open to get the garnish off without breaking it.

Might consider cutting the hood if all else fails, and just putting on hood-pins.
