Can someone that knows about the Constitution help me with an essay?

I have to write this essay for my Systems class final and i have no idea what to write so i thought i could ask the DSM community. This is my essay topic: Explain WHY and HOW the Constitution of the United States has survived for 214 years without having been radically altered, abolished, or undergoing extreme social upheaval. I know the HOW is amendments by i need some ideas why?

SLACKER..!..!..!..!..J/K..sup man long time no talk..havnt seen you on here in awhile..anyways i think some of the constitutional rights are bogus..i mean come on,a unarmed man was shot 40 + times in nyc and nothing was done about it even after the investigation..plus my views against slavery and war dont help either..anyways good luck..

it has been radically altered there are like 30 amendments or whatever.
it's a document that people use to their benefit and that the gov't changes to suit their wants. it means nothing anymore.
