So while I was deleting all my emissions garbage I pulled out the emission canister and it said GM on the top. I thought my car was just weird, but today while I was helping my buddy delete his emissions stuff I looked at his canister and it said the same thing. Can anyone explain why a Mitsubishi/Chrysler has GM parts.

It is not entirely uncommon to see this. Car companies have "borrowed" parts or "licensed" parts from other companies for a long time. Currently Ford's 6-speed automatic is being licensed through GM. So yeah, you're getting a GM transmission in a Ford.

What is even more common is the use of a third-party to supply the OEM with parts. For example, the Illinois company ITW supplies (and engineers) a few components to GM for their suspension. TRW tends to supply Ford.
