I bought a jdm vr4 motor (yellow top 510cc injectors, b16g) last summer, and I've delt with a few issues since then, but it seems to be running great now. Problem is that I only get 14-15hg vacuum on idle. I've searched and searched and searched and cannot find any vac leaks...timings good...plus the car runs great. Now, I can tell the valve cover had been removed before I bought the motor because there was excess liquid gasket all around the valve cover rim. Could this be an indication that whoever had this motor in Japan MIGHT have replaced the stock cams with more agressive ones? My exhaust kinda lopes at idle too...and the car turtles till about 3000rpms and then rips loose (more than usual...this is not my first dsm...I feel a difference) Any ideas? could is there any way to visually tell a difference between stock cams and aftermarket ones?

Examine the cams for #,s or any other other stampings. Most mistu turbo cams have similarities in the castings but if you have hks or any other cams, there will be differances. If you can tell, pull the vc off and take a pic of them and any #'s you find on them and then post it here. Someone can probably tell you what they are.

sounds good...I'll be gone for the next month so the pics will have to wait...but will do! :thumb:

If you have a lopey Idle of any kind you most likely have afetmarket cams. This will also cause the vacume to be slightly lower like you said.
