hey whats up everyone i was thinking about putting some aem cam gears on my 90 model talon tsi awd and i was just wonder if it was really worth it because i can't figure out what kind of a diffrence adjustable cam gears would make make besides making it really easy to bend valves, well if anyone knows what kind of diffrence cam gears make it would help me alot.:talon: :talon: :thumb:

the Dyno is the best way to tune them. Other that that there useless by seat of paints.

it's look cool under the hood but hard to tune.

Adjustable cam gears allow you to adjust valve timing, which is a rather high level of tuning. Until you get to that point, there are many more tuning points you have to go through, and only after you reach limitations of ignition timing and fuel tuning, should you go for adjustable gears.

he is saying that right now at your stage of upgrades you have, adjustable camgears are far from being needed. most people get them when they upgrade cams. you should go over the tuning guide on this site. they spent alot of time on it, for a good reason.

the only reason i can think of to get them right now would be to make your engine bay look flashy.

if you plan on some headwork (porting, valves, camshafts, etc) and getting into some hardcore tuning, then go for it. otherwise, it's not worth the timing belt removal to install them

hey thanks alot. i guess instead of gears i'm prob going to save up a lil extra money and get some new cams after i get my head tricked out. i didn't think putting cam gears on an almost stock car would be worth it. by the way what size cams should i get if i want to still be able to drive my car on the street but i want to be able to notice a diff in power.

Thanks for the info, I was kind of curious myself. But even in reading, I wouldnt advise any of this without some data logging equipment.

Cam Gear Info

Hope that helps :)

Shut up John, you don't know what you're talking about :D
Cam gears are evil ! Muahhaaa hahaaa.....

Depends, HKS cams are all i would spend my money on.

This is where you need to really sit down and ask yourself "What do i want out of my car." I know you are thinking that you want an all out race car, but be serious.

There has been a huge review on HKS cams with different types of turbos. With a big16g or smaller, go with a 264/264 (intake/exhaust) combo for the low end spool. With a 18g to green, get the 264/272 combo, and anything bigger than that, go 272/272.
