so i just purchased a bomz intake for the good ol' eclipse. (before i had the stock intake with a cone filter) so normally, before the car would most definitely pull and i would be able to hear the bov. after i installed in..several minutes ago, i took the car out and got good throttle response, but not as much pull as i did when i just had the cone filter. still hit the same psi for boost and did not hear the bov..it was very muffled if anything. i used the supplied couplers and the one going to the compressor wheel and the intake does not fit that well, it was kindof loose so i just tightened the hose clamp some more. i'm wondering if that could be the reason why i'm having the symptoms i'm having right now..

Inside the stock intake hose, at the compressor end, there should be a little black doughnut sleeve. Use that as a coupler spacer on the compressor inlet. Put the sleeve on the inlet, then the coupler for the intake.

It's possible that the poor fitting coupler is allowing the motor to draw in unmetered air causing you to run lean, in turn causing knock, in turn causing the ECU to pull timing resulting in less power. Do you have a logger to check for timing being pulled?

im having the same problem now with my bomz intake. it feels like the cars not pulling as much as it did with the stock intake. i think that the problem is that the coupler supplied with the kit is to big. i did the same thing you did by just tightening it up and i even used the little black donut sleeve on the stock intake as well and my car just doesnt pull as much as it did before. im just going to try to get a smaller coupler and hope that solves the problem.

yea i just put in the rubber sleeve from the stock intake to the compressor outlet and still, no result..so i just put back in stock filter and the bov is a little bit louder but not as much as it was before...still doesn't pull that much..when you get the reduced coupler, let me know how it goes because until then i'll just keep a watch on the car.

When I first installed the bomz intake I also noticed that my bov was alot quiter but I guess it's because you dont have the dump tube any more (it acts like a whistle)...I also felt like I lost power but I think its all in your head...A few weeks later after driving with the bomz kit, I put my stock intake pipe back on for the heck of it and wow did my car feel sluggish

I didn't feel any gains with the Bomz I purchased. It did get louder on spool-up though but, that was it. The fit and finish was poor but, what did I expect for $40 bucks.

Here's what happened to me. I posted this a few months ago;

Sorry this is so long but, I wrote this for all.

The one I got from ebay was CRAP! First of all, I ordered a black one w/ black couplers. They sent me a chrome one w/ blue and red couplers! The pipe itself was too long and pushed the MAF too far towards the passenger side. I couldn't get the filter from my FIPK on no matter what i tried. I ended up having to trim the pipe about 1.5" before it would work but, I ended up having to use the crappy blue filter they supplied. It barely fit. 2 weeks later, my car started boosting uncontrollably high. I thought my Blitz EBC was acting up so I turned it off but that didn't solve the problem. I pulled the intake pipe off to find the silicone vacuum line to the wg was split. The poorly engineered intake pipe pinched the line until it finally split. I replaced the line and the same thing happened again 5 days later. I took that pipe and filter off and threw them in the dumpster where they belong. I went back to the stock pipe with K&N FIPK. No problems since. You really do get what you pay for when it's so cheap. Hope this helps.

Friday at work I fab'd up a 'cold air intake' for my 1g. I put the MAF in the passenger bumper area.
I didnt have time to weld a recirc pipe up to it, but today I got a chance to. I made it from regular ass'd 2.5" exhaust piping.
Going from a poorly designed dejon intake, which turbo spool was barely audible, and bov too. Its now very apparent when I spool, and BOV is almost as loud as straight up open at the bov!

i went to my local autozone and advanced auto parts but it seems that neither place has the size coupler i need for the intake. so i think im going to have to order one online. today though i took off the intake pipe and replaced it with the stock pipe but left the cone filter on it. i took it for a test run and the car seems to pull alot harder now. so the wrong sized coupler is deffinatly the problem. there is just too much boost leaking out of the coupler cause its not fitting right. ill keep you posted though as soon as i receive a new coupler from online

There is no pressurized air (ie-boost) pre-compressor.;)

But I am curious to see if a properly fitting coupler cures the problem. Let us know. :)

If someone has access to a logger it may help shed some light on what is happening.

Rob, I need some welding work done. Why don't you come back to PDX and help me out. I know you're missing the rain.:p

Umm i didn't really notice any performance gains, it did however make the bov quiet(er) and turbo spool sound like a jet engine... As for the coupler i just tightend the heck out if it, thats all tho... (make sure you put the black rubber spacer back on the turbo when you remove the stock rubber intake, it should be inside the snorkle if its not on the turbo)

yea that's what i'm feeling too. thanks man, i'll look into getting a different sized coupler but it makes sense that the bomz doesn't utilize a dump tube in their intake which is probably why it's a quieter bov..i think LOL
