I've noticed myself posting this a couple of times, so I'll just make one big thread about it. This is a list I've compiled of camshaft offerings for the DSM 4G63 engine. This information is correct to the best of my knowledge, but please feel free to add or correct any information you may have, or tell me about anything I've missed. Lots of these camshafts measure duration at either 1mm (0.040") or at 1.27mm (0.050"). If you have the number for the opposite figure, please add that as well.

GSC, Kelford and Tomei's lift figures are calculated with a 1.73 rocker; HKS, Web, Crower and BC use 1.7, so I equalized them to 1.73. I don't know what Jun uses, but I suspect a 1.73 (numbers unchanged).

**Keep in mind that the duration numbers are either measured at 1mm (0.040") or at 0.050" - you cannot compare these values!**

While compiling this data, it became apparent that there is a trend on the more recent DSM cams to go really high in lift relative to the cams of yesteryear (GSC and Kelford, I'm looking at you), and I've noticed that people get really excited about those higher lift numbers. However, port flow data for 1G and 2G heads shows that the stock ports make very little, or no flow gain past 0.350" lift, which is only 8.9 mm. They tap out around 220 cfm on the intake ports and 200 cfm on the exhaust ports, while a ported head will go 270/240 or more, and continue making flow increases to the 0.500" level (around 12.7mm lift). Stock DSM camshafts typically range from 0.325" to 0.350" of lift, depending on model. At this point, more lift by itself on stock ports will not increase power, and all gains in power from a camshaft change are made by changes in duration, overlap, ramp rate and LSA. So, to take full advantage of camshafts that offer more than 9.0mm of lift, you will need a ported cylinder head. Does this mean that all aftermarket camshafts are a waste on a stock head? Of course not! There is still a lot to gain from well-matched cams on your setup, and low-lift camshafts do not mean low performance! I chose Jun 264s to go with my Curt Brown Racing 2G head. Although the lift is a relatively puny 10.50mm/10.50mm, they have a very quick ramp rate and a lot of duration (very comparable to GSC S2), which will perform great on stock ports, and create a responsive and broad torque curve with a ported head.

My 92 is running "little" Kelford 264s and she is a handful at only 24lbs. When I use the override button (scramble button) and go to 34lbs, you really feel and hear the difference.
Appreciate the additional info for the members to have. It should help everyone make good choices on cams for their particular applications.
