Whats up guys, what’s your favorite thing about these money pits? For me it’s the joy of wrenching on them and how my car never fails to put a smile on my face. She’s currently in the garage off the jack stands with some new hawk hp plus pads, a new oil pan that hopefully won’t leak anymore, and a new valvecover with -10an fittings that will hopefully keep the dipstick from blowing out at 35psi on the fp red LOL. I’m excited to install my new catch can and get her back out on the road and make it to the track this year, but anyways I just wanted to chime in and say I think we have a great online community and a ton knowledgeable resources for this platform, I’ve been a dsm’er since 2013 and would never go back:hellyeah:I hope everyone is as excited for 2019 as I am, wrench on:dsm:

Man, I'm in the exact same situation as you so I couldn't agree more with what you've said! I also entered the DSM scene back in 2013 and although there's also been bad moments with these cars, it's all worth it in the end. It's one of the best platforms to learn on and also build upon. The knowledge about them is immense and is all nicely compiled on these forums. Not only, but plenty of skilled people do regular videos on them, so pretty much everything is covered. All you'd ever need to know is at your fingertips.

I also think the community around the DSM is just one of the best, at least based on my own experiences. I've met some great people through these cars who've helped so much and it's clear that we're all likeminded and we want to keep these cars going and keep them relevant. For argument's sake, if I could afford it, I'd also get an R33, but the DSM will always be closest to my heart and my #1 choice, all day 'erryday!

The thing I've always liked about DSMs is the cost. Making any car fast is a money pit but it's much less so than any other platform. Just look at the prices of parts for any other car and it makes sense. I don't have to drop 10k on the car then drop another 15k in mods. Plus, I love the look of our cars and the awd turbo. The perfect triad: cheap, turbo, awd.

Yeah Vegas cost is what got me into these cars, that and the affordability of parts and how easy and fun they are to work and learn on. I’ve taken it from a conservative pumpgas 16g car to a fp red e85 beast! And to be able to hang with cars costing waay more is also nice:thumb:

Hit the nail on the head with cost of building these cars up compared to others. Just the feeling of knowing that no matter what other cars I will have in my life in the furure, my dsm will always be my fun project car.

2 of my best friends just bought new cars. One has a 2018 BMW M2 brand new, and the other just bought a 2017 Camaro zl1 1le with 5k miles and OMFG those cars are something else!! And just when I start to feel envious, I find out that the beamer buddy is getting a cat back exhaust for 2-3k and my other buddy is in denial about the rate of depreciation his Camaro will face.

This DSM of mine is like the faithful woman in your life you can always fall back on. That is a horrible analogy but idk how else to describe it ROFL

Liked your analogy LOL dont ask why...

I’ve been a dsmer since 2001 and I wouldnt want it anyother way. I love my car and I hate it that this cars dont get the credit they deserve. I treat my car like a true clasic and try to maintain as such. Unfortunately im daily driving it for now but I treat it like a S600 Mercedes LOL.. I will pass down my car to my 7 year old, he seems to enjoy it as much as I do and keeps track of every new mod. “Keep on wrenching” well said.. :applause::rocks::dsm::hellyeah:

These cars came out when I was in high school, so nostalgia is a big part for me. But I also like having a nice ride that's older than most millennials!

Price per HP is definately something I never imagined when I got thrown into this platform. Gotta say, when my friends ask, "are ya goin thru the change of life, drivin those foreign cars?" I just tell em, I always wanted the FASTEST car, even tho they all know I love my Chevys. But....here I am!
(Love my popup headlights too) LOL

All the aforementioned reasons are amazing, and I definitely agree with them, save that I don't have kids, but my nieces and nephew think my "race car" is pretty cool, haha.

I love thinking about the next set of changes im going to implement, trying new things with a well seasoned platform and doing btrailblazing, trying things other ppl wouldn't ever want to. I love that I can be innovative (as hard as that is with a platform that's had so many awesome people work on it) with it and learn amazing things about tech in general, yet be rewarded so we'll when things are done right with it.

It's a ton of fun and Ill always be a DSM guy.

Another thing I’d like to ad is since owning a dsm I’ve become a more confident backyard mechanic LOL. I’d never done anymore than an oil change before my owning my dsm. Then the year before last I pulled the motor, tore it down and got it rebuilt, and I put it back together myself with the help of this site and YouTube:thumb: Just recently did the timing belt on the wife’s mini van saving us at least $1000 from the stealership:hellyeah: Even my mom and brother can’t believe I can do that kinda stuff now LOL, I’m still a total newb and learning, but it’s all fun and amazing what we can do when we put our minds to it:dsm:

I LOVE being the underdog. Especially these days...when you don't see them on the road to often. IF you do...its most likely modded well, or half-arsed L O L. Underdog also compared to what runs the streets now. Easily bought already "fast" cars. I still think these cars are the best bang for the buck hands down. And I've owned them since 2002. Unfortunately MY personal cars have been on jackstands for a bit but aren't going anywhere, when they run they RUN. Thankfully....my gf is now into the same DSM passion as I am....so I get to mod and drive her 97 GST :)

Best part about owning a dsm has to be the feeling of hitting boost for the first time or all the people who wave on my commute to work. I was always a v8 guy until my friend let me drive his dsm, low an behold i bought his car 2 years later. Im real privileged to own the one that sparked my interest into these beautiful machines.

I love the addicting boost of course and the fun in building this platform as much as anybody, but the fact that I can get into my 1G and drive 200 miles in any direction without seeing another car that even remotely looks the same, warms my heart like nothing else!!

In my case it's the "WTF is that" factor. Living in upstate new York these cars are incredibly hard to come by in general, nevermind running and driving.. so unfortunately I'm pretty well known in the local car communities as a sleeper but it's always fun telling the Subaru guys I'm running 30psi on a stock block LOL

This is my 2nd dsm even tho this one is an auto. I'm greatly appreciating. I shift gears in my daily the big rig for months on end then get the privilege to go start it and once warmed up go enjoy the sensation of fun... I got a few mild build ideas because I just want to enjoy it.

Plus it's fun cruising and random kids who seen the fast and furious wave at me.

I truly plan on restoring this gem.

I think what I like the most and what I hate the most are one of the same. I get a lot of attention with my DSM, and it brings people back thru memory lane when they see it. Unfortunately it also brings way too much unwanted attention (if you know what I mean). The constant everywhere I go is somebody trying to buy it off my hands. :idontknow:

Now as far as cost, it has really ruined me... The price to upgrade has been so cheap in comparison that any mod I want to do to any of my other cars just pisses me off because of how expensive they are. I mean, where else can you do a front big brake kit for less than $400 with all new parts? :sneaky:
