BAD Stutter/sputter Problem from 4k-6k

Hello all, this is my first problem/question to the board. I recently picked up a 97 gst and the car was running fine. I put a KN filter on, and now the car pulls good up to around 4k rpm and then stutters(loses almost all power) until I get to 6k rpm and then it takes off like a bat out of hell again. I replaced the stock airbox and filter to see if i could get it back to normal, but it still did the same thing. So I then put the KN back on, changed the plugs, and it got a litttllllle better. I made sure every intake hose was super tight, I checked all the vacumm lines I could see. Oh, and if I try to make it keep revving when it stutters in the mid range, the CEL will come on after a few times, but it doesnt come on if I just cruise around all day, only when I push the motor to do something other than cruise.

My guess is possibly a bad fuel regulator, or pump, and maybe spark plug wires. But those are just guesses in the dark. Maybe I messed up the maf or something weird when I put on the KN.

I need help bad because this is really frustrating me, so if you have any advice whatsoever, I'll take it!

Change your spark plug wires.

usually when the car hesitates it is an ignition problem check your plug gaps? .28 is what you want change the wires and what plugsh are you using?
