back to stock muffler?

last year I went through a bit of a rice stage and bought a fart can for my car....i liked it up until about 2 weeks ago when all of a sudden i noticed its just to damned loud...all im going for is gas mileage since this car is N/T....would it hurt if i just put my factory muffler back on or should i get a quiet aftermarket one (if one is even made).what do u guys recommend?

You say your car is a N/T yet under your name it says your car is a TSi AWD. Which is it? In my opinion unless you have the stock muffler still, it isn't worth it to go back to stock. Mitsubishi will charge you an arm and a leg for a new "stock" muffler. I have a Magnaflow muffler, it has a nice tone when I'm accelerating but its nice and quiet while just driving and maintaning speed. Sorry if this makes no sense I was just out drinking, but seriously, look into a magnaflow muffler. They're inexpensive, you still have the air flow and the tone, but not the loud annoying buzz when driving. Hope maybe this helps a little.

I have both, but i only claim the awd I do still have my stock muffler and it "seemed" to get better gas mileage when i went with the straight through but maybe not i guess..ill check into the magnaflow

Any exhaust in an N/T is pretty damn loud. All_Show had a Tanabe...that ish was way too loud...I have a 5 Zigen is still too loud. Right now I'm actually running a stock can because the noise was unbearable...

i'm so glad i'm not the only one who feels this way - i put a stock gst exhaust on my NT after a couple months of the horrendous sound of the N1 finally pissed me off to the point of wanting to just drop it in the dumpster. i really liked the way it looked and even the sound at idle and low rpm's wasn't bad but as soon as i wanted to get on it the noise was like holy christ wtf is that!?!

i've got a test pipe too so the sound is still pretty bad but i'm having a glasspak worked into the system - if that dosen't help i'm putting the cat back on and saying to hell with it - its a NT - its not going to get fast unless i want to dump a ton of cash into it and if i had a ton of cash i wouldn't be screwin around with an RS to begin with...

I have a test pipe and a Flowmaster muffler. It's the 40 serious Delta flow and its pretty nice soundin. Idk how "loud" you dont want but mine is pretty loud but its a deep roar kind of sound. Flowmasters are great mufflers and damn its nice when it crackles as the RPMs fall!!

I have an apex-n1 with the silencer and the silencer makes the biggest difference in the world....I also agree with the MagnaFlow as they are a good quality muffler with a low hmmmm tone sound to them

if all you want is sound yea throw the silencer in... because when i did that it sounded just fine - but it also killed the topend gain. but this of course is where i remember i drive a NT and its kindof pointless

I decided to go a different route and just sell the car..in its place i bought an 89 mercery tracer 4 door now i have more money for my talon AND a ride that will get the chicks

why dont you check out a tunable muffler from arospeed...they have universal applications...you can tune it to be as loud or quite as you want plus i dont think you'll have a gas milage issue...
