Hi, i am fairly new to the DSM community and to cars in general!!!! So i’m rebuilding a 4g63t for my 1997 eclipse gst. It is an automatic and i’m just looking for a way to get to 300-350 hp.
    So far
    -7 bolt block
-the short block has been bored out .020 then stock
    Brand new Stock rods
    -Npr pistons
-The head gasket is just oem
-The head is stock and i’m thinking about buying 272 cams but i don’t know if the money is worth it
(If i do end up getting the cams ill buy bc1100 valve springs)
-upgraded fuel system 225 lph fuel pump and 650 cc fuel injectors
    -A 16g housing turbo
    -arp head studs
    -stock bolts for main caps
    -stock intercooler
    -(will get a tune)
I just want to know if there is anything i can do more to get to that horsepower ?or if anything is flawed in my upgrade path? or what supporting mods will i need to achieve my goal?
    Thank you.

The 272 cams are pretty big for an auto car, depending on what brand of cams you are thinking about. What brand where you thinking of using?

Those are mild and would work good for you. My Kelfords are pretty aggressive and I like them but they might be too much for a small turbo. They like to rev to 8500-9000.
The difference in brands makes a difference in their actual lift and duration. The BC's and HKS's are a pretty good setup for a E16 turbo, according to this thread....:thumb:

Here is a good thread on cam comparison..........

300 is a pretty easy number to get. I would suggest a bigger pump than the 225 (but it will work, just gonna run out of pump easy), adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator and 1000cc-1200cc injectors with Ecmlink on E85 and your good. Just need to tune it. I think you'll be surprised and happy.
Maybe a FP exhaust manifold too.
Let's see if anybody else has some suggestions. :thumb:

What fuel do you plan to run on? The stock side mount heat soaks quickly and if on some weak pump gas that will lower the timing you can run. With a 16g and intake temps in check timing will make all the difference.

You will do decent then. Most 93 is decent stuff. Here its all bad 91 octane so we all run e85.

It is 70-85% ethanol depending on mix. For fuel pump recommendations 255 is just fine. I tune a stock motor 7 bolt with just head studs and hks 272's, 7 blade hx35, bolt on housing with 1050cc and walbro 255. Car did 446whp last year on dyno at car show on only 27psi. No sign of it going lean up top yet. This was on e85 and only around 14-15 deg of timing with it very mild around peak TQ to keep stock rods happy.

Its the lead time of the spark before the piston gets to top dead center. E85 allows for more lead time without producing pre-ignition or knock which is very detrimental to a motor.
On gasoline, the timing is harder to increase without the knock sensor talking to the ECU.

Good explanation. I am confident the car would take more timing. But being stock motor car it’s safer to keep timing low and just keep adding boost.
