Alright so my tranny is dying, slips all the time, yesterday i was trying to pass someone and the freeway and it shifted into neutral by itself haha. So i don't really know anything about transmissions or how to rebuild them but my question is do you think i can just get a rebuild kit from IPT and have a shop rebuild it? or once a tranny gets this bad is it just junk and i have to buy a new tranny. This all just started about 3 days ago. My CV axle is torn real bad also, but ya just trying to get an idea of what to do with it.

Trying to rebuild an auto tran. is very difficult and a PITA. I wouldn't suggest rebuilding yourself if you went that route. I would try to find a used tranny and possibly a manual (more reliable).

You could always try changing the fluid out and filter! That might help as the burnt fluid will make it slip! If that fails then you can bet 1 of your rings are gone normally its the o/d ring, I would try the filter and fluid swap add slick 50 aswell and if that fails then just buy a new tranny as if you mess up rebuilding your self then that's more money to spend out! Making sure all the magnets and everything right can get complicated! Good luck with it, I do a fluid and filter change every 3 years and add slick 50 and its still as strong as ever.

yes i did the fluid and filter change about 2 weeks ago with b&m trickshift. It seemed like it helped quite a bit for about the first week and these last couple of days it has just gotten alot worse. anyone know where to find a good replacement tranny thats not 2500. haha

I am considering getting a kit for my trans. Before I have an issue I already changed out my fluids and it runs great for now. But the extra power is going to take its tool on an already old transmission. How much should we expect to pay for a rebuild? Let us know how it goes..

How much did the local shop charge you for the rebuild labor? I am thinking of getting mine rebuilt and would like to know what is a reasonable price

I was charged $550 for the labor. It took 2 days. So all in all.. didnt turn out too bad. It helped alot that I took the trans out of the car so I saved alot in labor. The price included the trans rebuild and the installation of the shift kit for the VB. Trans is doing great.. shifts hard and quick and doesnt slip under high boost. Im sitting at around 30psi and if i'm guessing right, around 450whp.

The mitsubishi dealer does recommend a power flushing of any fluids on our cars because it might cause bigger problems. You can drain it and replace the filter on it I would use a VERY good transmission fluild (factory fluid). See what happens or you can get them to check it and see if you are gettin any codes from the transmission.

Are you running Full Line Pressure ? If not, try it for a temporary fix..I got 2 to 3 more months of non-spirited daily driving outa mine before it started slipping regularly again.....

so overall about 1100 for the rebuild kit and the cost of the rebuild. Did you put the tranny back in your car or did they do that?

Yes I did reistall the tranny back in. I was trying to save as much as possible. The stock tranny blew at around 330whp. This new built tranny has seen 400whp on a mustang (corrected) dyno so about 450 to 480whp on a uncorrected dyno and still pulling hard with no slippage! IPT rebuild kit is the shizzz!!!
