ARP L19 6 Bolt Head studs

Couple questions I can't seem to find the answers for,

1. I noticed a $200 price hike for L19's between the 6 and 7 bolt... what gives for the price gouge on the 6 bolt?

2. What's the ARP part number? Noone lists it

My only guess is that they sell more of the 7 bolt head studs because the 6 bolt studs are bigger already from the factory and can have more clamping load, the 7 bolt needs the aftermarket bolts more and therefore as more of the 7 bolt design are sold, the cost to develop and keep them in stock has been paid for? otherwise it might just be the cost of machining the larger 6 bolt studs and the small amount of extra material that goes into the 6 bolt design.

Thats a theory, but I doubt almost doubling the price is for 1mm bigger studs

And from what I've seen most high hp builds are 6 bolts that would use l19's.

It's due to the extra material. Metal prices are stupid right now, and on top of that every single business out there are skyrocketing costs and using "inflation" as an excuse to charge double to triple their normal price.

My favorite example is pizza places charging up to $6-$7 delivery fee for "inflation" but none of these places are paying their people anymore to adjust for inflation. Lol.

But yeah, TL;DR it's just them raising prices and using the 'inflation' excuse to make more money.

My guess is because of the pricing difference on base material size from supplier to ARP. The 6 bolt L19 kit has been always more expensive than the 7 bolt.

There is no ARP part number since it's not ARP's off the shelf. It's custom made.

Thanks, when I get the chance I'll call arp and see if I can get some numbers or info to see if it's posiable to get them at a decent price.

Our understanding is that these particular L19's are not an official ARP part. Apparently, ARP put these kits together at the request of one of the big vendors. ARP is happy to sell more product (and doubtless doesn't care what the part number is) and the big vendor is happy to sell kits. Everybody's happy, right? (There's a part number printed on each box, but our understanding is that it doesn't come up in an official ARP parts list. Apparently, it's fairly routine for ARP to put together custom kits for anyone who commits to buying whatever ARP considers "enough").

I'd be curious what ARP tells you about these if you contact them.

They most likely sell 3-5x the amount to warrant the drop in whole sale pricing. Thats how it always works! If a product has a constant turn over its likely to be able to make more at 1 time and thus less costs for setup and they know they will sell, 6 bolts are very rare vs 7 bolts. Not many got it and they likely make 1 batch maybe 2 smaller runs per year ( yes thats just a wild guess ) but in general the less they do the more it costs as the end product

This is correct! All exotic materials are ALOT more! SS has gone up over 100% this last year alone! When we got a sheet in that was £150 or so its now over 300!!! Alloy steels are also up by about 70%! Aluminum is up by about 60% and all change daily. The worlds gone crazy and no one can keep up! Price quotes now last almost 24 hrs vs 20 days etc! Russia and Ukraine dont help the situation 1 bit.

Like Paul said with it not being off the shelf item, they can set the rates. I'm going to call today and see what info I can get.

huh well thats made me think some as to the WHY. lower volume part is cheaper... hmmm

as mentioned then its very likely an agreed price for the batch from the original person to have them made. i guess once set as long as the batch run is the same they can keep the prices down for the custom order

yeah i do agree. the L19 is an exotic material but 1mm OD sized should not be that much extra. maybe sales are less? hate to think what H11's would cost or custom age 625's then!

The engines using those studs were made from 1990-1992.5. They don’t sell a lot. And every time they set up tooling to make them, they’re not making high sales volume parts on that machine.

After calling arp this is the answer. They only do batch runs and it's custom order. So that sets the rate. It's unfortunate but it is what it is.

At least they are "available"! I have been waiting on Comp Cams for a small snout SBC roller cam and it looks like a few more months........not good for my customer, or me.

This is true, I ordered custom pistons from arias for my 1000whp Honda and they took 6 months, as well as I upgraded the head studs to 12mm and arp took 9 months.

The world is still backlogged from covid and supply issues unfortunately, and that's the way I look at it as well.

If you’re upgrading stud size just go to 1/2” and find a regular arp stud that fits. Clamping force will be about the same, without the 9 month wait.

Arp has been backlogged, doesn't matter what you order, I'm running regular 2.6 mits diesel studs in the Honda.
