Will have to see what we have going on. What time does it go on.

By the way, for us fwd guys, Jacksonville high school has a dyno. Haven't got a price for it yet but glad I have a dyno less than 5 miles from the house.

Asu searcy also has one. Rwd fwd only though.

ugh...2 1/2 hours to remove the damn castle nuts off of my axles straight up pissed me off...

Finally get to start removing the lower control arms and can't find my freaking 17 or 19mm closed end wrenches.....time to give up for the morning before I throw something....

Trust me - I go through the same crap -every- time I work on the DSM.

"Where the HELL is my 12 point 12mm?!"

I agree, there is SOMETHING missing everytime I work. I try to even clean up and organize things every other day just to make sure that I don't have this issue but lately I've been bouncing between electrical wiring and transmission work as things get backed up and got a mess out in the garage.

Luckily the heat has finally broke around here and I can atleast not sweat off 5 pounds stomping around looking for the damn tools. I guess this atleast gives me a good excuse to make a run to Harbor Freight this weekend and get some odds and ends.

My goal is to have the new clutch, flywheel, and pressure plate back into the car and running by labor day weekend. We'll see how that goes, classes start up this week and I teach so it depends how rough I want to be on my students and their homework....

I feel your pain. I have tools all over the garage. My problem is I need a larger tool box. Guess that's a good problem though.

Swung by Lowes and lucked out. It seem they are clearancing most of their Kobalt tools and I snagged a nice set of combination wrenches for 80% off. Unfortunately I didn't grab a 22 and 24mm wrench which I desperately need.

On a side note the PO had an exhaust shop chop the downpipe flange off when replacing the cat and just welded in a solid pipe to connect the two. Now I have a solid pipe from the O2 housing to the rear muffler....it's making pulling the transfer case a bi***. I even broke the rear o2 wires trying to remove the hangers and get some wiggle room.

Oh the joys of a DSM. I actually missed the issues of a DSM it's like a grown mans frustrating video game....

Im glad you made it to a Lowes instead of harbor freight. I do agree that they have some of the lowest prices on the market but a lot of their tools are Chinese bull$##@. I will admit shopping in there and found a hell of a deal on Goodyear air hose. I bought 100ft of air hose for like $40 bucks. I have a 22 and a 24 wrench if you still need one in the future and yes it is a flimsy Chinese harbor freight brand. I really don't like to use them cause when your really getting down on them they feel like their about to brake in half. If I didn't owe my snap on man 5k already I would really be stocking up. Damn tool box and scanner but they sure are purrdie LOL. So I have made a deal with James and am going to buy his talon shell for 700 and going to do a full swap. Swapping in everything from my car to his. the auto to manual swap isn't that bad of a job but will take me several weekends to complete. I am thinking about pulling my hatch off my gst and having it repainted white to match his talon cause I really don't like the way the spoilers look on talons. I like the look of a low spoiler in my opinion. probably going to put my windows in his car also since they have window tint I spent $240 on a year ago. If I do a hatch swap and the windows all I need tinted is the corner glass's and a brow. Now it's a waiting game on the check to clear my bank. The bank told me by next Thursday it should clear. I hope it comes though sooner than that.

So are you going to find a awd tranny or just make it a fwd?

Here's a brain teaser. I found a 85 starion rwd turbo with the turbo still on. No shaft play. Would it be worth it to pull?

Do -not- use an AWD trans for a FWD setup. :D just sayin'.

Whats your opinion of doing this with the viscous coupler so you can drop the draftshaft? I ask because I want to be able to use the local dyno for tuning with just the fwd an reconnect the driveshaft afterwards.

It can cause damage to the VC. To quote Tim Zimmer

You would either need a welded center differential or a viscous coupler eliminator to drive the car in fwd without a driveshaft or transfer case. If you have a stock center diff and viscous coupler you will simply be freewheeling and will torch the viscous coupler. Go and get a transfer case or disassemble the transmission and get the viscous coupler swapped for a vce or weld the center diff if you want to run it in fwd.

Yeah I agree about the chinese crap, I had one snap in half on me and slit my hand open once. Most of the things I've bought from there has been alright though. The wrenches were a no go though.

Couldn't he run a welded center diff. or a VCE? Also need an awd starter or plate, and flywheel.

EDIT: second page fail on my part :p

I typically go to harbor freight for things I'll just use once or twice and thing that are disposable such as grinding wheels. Harbor freight has a big sale on soon a well. I have twenty percent off digital coupons for HF I can email if anyone wants then.

As for the VCE I've been debating but jut not sure. I few track runs and constant logging may be a safer tuning alternative then the VCE.

Just found out that, that starions turbo is called a TD05 12A. probably not worth the money to go get it.

Uhhh yeah I'm taking everything from my car and transplanting it into the other. Not going to put an awd trans and run it fwd. taking the awd parts out of the shell and converting the body to fwd. I have all the part essentially from my gst. Just have to pull and install into the other. The only thing i really have to buy for the swap is a braided clutch line since his was auto. Going to be a fun weekend of work but if it saves me money I'm willing to put in the time. The estimate on my gst was 2k not including wheels and tires. If I'm buying a straight body with good paint and a set of wheels with good tires for $700 why not convert.

hmmmm. i wonder how much one can get the car for

you could probably get the car for around what it would bring across the scales at that place.

Yeah you usually have to get the state to do a vin check on it then take the papers to the dmv and file for a lost title
