Are folks still getting recall notices?

I registered my '92 Talon TSi AWD on CarFax several years ago, and around once or twice a year they keep reminding me that there's an open recall on it for the infamous transfer case leak. I had that looked at over 20 years ago by a dealer, where it was examined and determined to not need replacement or repair (which I can only assume was true as the car's survived till now even though it's got other issues now that I'm working on). Do others here still get the occasional recall notice, and is this due to CarFax being overvigilant or does Jeep/Mitsubishi still send these out? Just thought it was kind of funny.

    I'm glad I don't own a Ford Pinto.

I cancelled the CarFax alert but I just thought it was funny that they actually sent it to me. It's almost like being reminded of a dental exam you missed 25 years ago, or one of those movies premised on a letter that got lost for decades until it was finally delivered.

And, honestly, given my experience with my local Jeep-Eagle dealer back when I had all these recalls looked at, I wasn't impressed. The timing belt one took forever to fix, plus I had a bunch of other drivetrain issues that were under warranty that had them keep the car for a month. At this point unless it's genuinely beyond my abilities or I don't have the time, I'd rather do it myself.

It does seem a little funny to get a recall notice for a car this old.

I worked as a service advisor for over a decade. On recall inspections that isn't too involved, techs get paid 1 or 2 tenths of an hour. If no further repair is needed, the repair order is closed and sent to the warranty administrator. From there the warranty administrator enters the repair/claim and off to corporate to get paid. If the recall is truly still open, dealership most likely lost the repair.

..."lost the repair". Yep that's how all dealerships operate.

Well, it wasn't a "real" recall notice, from the dealer (all the more so since Eagle no longer exists), but a reminder from CarFax about one that I already got over 20 years ago, so it's really a CarFax bug. Perhaps, when I signed up, it listed all the recalls for this car and asked me to check off the ones I had taken care of, and I forgot to check them off, so it keeps sending me these. Still, kind of funny.

No I get it, but it must be funny to get that email even then. You should print it out and show up to the dealership for fun. Lol

Hah, what dealership? Eagle is defunct and Mitsubishi doesn't care that it's a DSM.

    Would be funny, though.

Btw, is that a supercharger intake on your car?

I'd go to Jeep or Chrysler dealer and see how they react. LOL

You must be referring to the 1g in my sig with the black thing on the hood - that's actually a hood vent to release hot air from under the hood. When you do road courses you build up a lot of heat, you need to vent it or you'll run into issues.

Ah, I see. Are there devices that collect & vent that heat through the exhaust, or too complicated?

That's not really possible, or at least it wouldn't be efficient. You're really just trying to get the incoming airflow that goes through the radiator and intercooler to exit from the engine bay. Hood vents are the most effective way to do that. It's very common in racing applications to see hood vents in use.
