Brunz, you are an angry dude. Don't put that kind of stuff up here. The Corps wasn't like that. You most have forgot how it really was. How are you declorated?

OK DONT LISTEN TO ALL OF THOSE PIECE'S!

Listen if you have a comfortable life, and people you love being with, and have a family you dont want to be without, then do not do it.

ALL the crap about benefits and pay, its garbage! If your single, you are going to be live in a 10x10 room, with a bathroom, shitty ass hard bed, a/c doesnt work half the time!
the pay is horrible, you can barely live comfortably, and dont even think about saving money, thats out of the question. They say, oh well we pay for housing, food, medical, dental. Yeah they do, but its all at the bare minimum, and the worst service you could get. im being serious man. Its a really shitty life style, i know very few marines that like it. the dental and medical benefits are horrible, you go there, you wait 8 hours ( urgent care) doesnt sound to urgent! then they assist you, and tell you, well here is some pain meds, nothing thats good! just some tylenol and pat you on the back! as far as surgery goes, you might just want to expect, three or four surgeries, for some simple, because there not going to get it right the first time. oh and you'll be waiting about 2-3 months, maybe more, just to get the surgery. no bullshit man. dental is'nt that bad, but havent really dealt with that as much. FOOOOODD WOOOOWOWOWOWWO! well they say they pay for your food, but they dont, they take out about 300 dollars for it every month, i spend about that much at the grocery store a month, just becuase the food at the chow hall is ####ing horrible. i dont even think most of it is eatible! its that bad, and you can only get a certain amount, and they got these little tickets to make sure you dont get more than your supposed to! its ####ing ###... like marines are 18-22 years old, they need to eat A LOT, and they give you bare minimum!! its bullshit!!! oh and if you ever want to go do something on a weekend, you might as well throw it out the window... they have a chart on how far you can drive,, and where you can go, its bullshit, and if you get caught, you lose money rank, the whole 9 yards... Like seriously, there are so many rules and restrictions to what you can do, that your always worried about getting in trouble, even if you know your not doing anything wrong. One small incident, will end your marine corps career, they make it to where if you get in trouble, even if it is something stupid, that you cant recover from it, because of all the rules. pretty much if you do, you wont pick up rank, and you will be marked as a piece of shit, i personally havent been in trouble, but ive seen alot of goood guys get in trouble for stupid shit and then get put down the rest of there time in. its ####ing stupid. if you want ot get treated like your ####ing 2, and degraded for no ####ing reason, this is what you want. You want to be treated like a HUMAN and a man, dont join! at least not the marines, im not talking for other services cause i really dont know. The marines is an UNORGANIZATION!!!! know one ever knows whats going on! you do stupid shit all the time, just to pass time. For real dude dont waste your ####ing time... DONT LISTEN TO ALL THOSE ###GOT STAFF SERGEANTS THAT HAVE BEEN POSTING SHIT!!!! THERE ALL HOMOS THAT DONT HAVE A LIFE BACK HOME AND CANT MAKE IT OUTSIDE THE CORPS, CAUSE THERE TO ####ING LAZY TO MAKE SOMETHING OF THERE SELVES! SERIOUSLY THERE ###GOTS THAT GOT PICKED ON IN HIGH SCHOOL AND HIDE BEHIND THE ####ING ROCKERS AND MAKE OTHERS THERE bi*** JUST LIKE THEY WERE THERE WHOLE LIFE BECAUSE THERE LOSERS, WHICH IS WHY THEY ENJOY IT, CAUSE THERE IN CONTROL, AND THEY HAVE POWER, SOMETHING THEY NEVER HAD BEFORE, BUT USE IT TO THERE ADVANTAGE! ####ING ###S!!!!!!!! GET A ####ING LIFE!!!! IM DONE

IM A VERY DECLORATED MARINE! JUST HATE ALL THE BS THAT COMES WITH IT!!!!! ITS ####ING ###!!!!!!

Although I love the military a lot of what he said is true. Just weird seeing it all put together like that with so much anger. And it's obvious to me that he never took any writing classes. ;) I don't think that ALL of they guys that stay in are useless tools.

Don't forget when you join there's also always a chance of not coming back or coming back hurt. I tell you this because my friend has only been there(Afghanistan) a yr and now he's in the hospital in Germany, all because of a suicide bomber that almost got him. He ended up getting his leg hurt really bad, like the artery in his leg got cut, lost alot of blood and was severely burned. He already had surgery and still has more still to come. Luckily he gets to keep is leg. Don't always think just about the benefits when your in there because not evenone makes it back fine or alive. Oh and this happy 9-9-09

If anyone is scared and/or doesn't like the military or anything about it, don't join. But I coose that life. If was that or die gang bangin'. You decide.

i have been contemplating the idea of the corps or army for a few months now. it is a big decision, as im sure you all would know.

i will be 20 this November, currently i am a roofer who now HATES his job. i want to do something with better pay and doesnt kill myself for the next 35-40 years.

i look into the military because of the schooling after wards. it is a great addition to your resume post serving. the signing bonus and money you make, which can all be banked from what i have heard. your expenses are very minimal(housing, food, CHEAP car insurance etc..)

because it is such a big decision and change, it is very hard to decide what i would like to do. my dad was in the army back in the late70's early 80's. his dad was a truck driver for the USMC. another grandfather was in the navy. there is a lot of military in my family and they all seem to think it is a great idea to join up.

i also have 7+ friends that are in some sort of branch. more than half are in the air force, the other 3 are in the army. they all seem to love it. one big thing for me would have to be the life after serving. what type of guarantee is there for a good paying job?

sorry for the rant. but anymore insight to the situation would be GREATLY appreciated!

OK guys keep this thread going.Especially people that are in the armed forces and married. I wanted to join since I was about 15 I am 27 be 28 at the end of the month (cut-off for joining). And I cannot sleep anymore bc I know this is what I want to do, but I got married this past year, just built a new house and my wife said that she would support me with what ever choice, but she knows I will not rest untill I find something meaningful to do with my life. So how hard is it to me married and your wife does not live close by? I will am talking to a recruiter tonight about OCS since I have a college degree. Any adive would be great.

You just built a house and got married? Yea I would not join in your case.
I want to go to the navy but I am married and have not paid my home off, so that's not the best thing for me to do right now. Plus I got fat from stay home all day dam economy.

What branch would you be looking at? My advice would be join the Navy(I was in 2 different branches and my father was in the third, and I have a good friend who is a O-5 in the last). Does you wife have a career? If not and she's willing to relocate that it wouldn't be that bad. If you can't go officer then don't do it! I will say that the money isn't the best, but you make enough to get by. If you have any questions at all please post them.

I am only interested in the Marines, and yes a few people told me if I cannot get officer dont waste time enlisting with a college degree. What is nice is that I make it to OCS and I fail out I did not lose anything and go back to being a civilian since the Marines does not require any commitment once you fail out. Yes believe me I will not sign untill I am ready and fit bc I did get lazy over the last couple years. The OCO was not in last night so I made an appointment for later this month since he as to travel to this recruiting station. I am a little more relaxed for time bc I thought once you turn 28 its to late but you have the whole year while you are 28 to join. Yes we are pretty settled since whe is very close to her whole family and they all live in the same town. So I know she will get the support from them when I am gone which makes me feel better. And once all the training is done, I will have a weekend here and there to come home and visit correct? How much can I expect to see my wife if I am stateside on base once I complete training for MOS etc. besides the 30 days vacation. Financially we should be able to survive on the what my wife makes and the money if I join. My biggest concern is just what its like for the marriage relationship.

From what I gather, if you are stationed in the states you can do as you please Monday-Friday after work. And on the weekends it's the same deal. if you want to fly home or drive if it's close you can. And if you want to take your 30 day leave just make sure you notify them of the dates way ahead of time so there is no chance of getting screwed over.

Every month you earn 2 or 2.5 days off and you can take them if you don't want to save them all til the end is the year. Or you can sell back the days if you end up not using them.

I have quite a few friends in each branch minus the navy, all buy one enjoys what they are doing. I will be leaving 3-3-10 for ft benning, GA with the army. I can't wait!

Thanks for the reply's. Phunny not sure why the Marines. Or I am sure, I should say but it's hard for me to pinpoint. Just the respect I have for them compared to the other armed forces is just different. The Marines is something you are part of and forever will be. Were I feel everything else is just does not compare. Everything they do and are just gives me that warm feeling inside that I cannot describe and that is why I cannot tell you exactly why I want to be part of something that great. I know it soudns dumb and weird but thats my only explanation.

It's totally up to you, but if it's because of all the hype about the core you might want to rethink it. They do the most advertising and outreaches and things like that for a reason(they have to). My point is, there really isn't much to offer once you get out. I am by no means knocking the core, my father was a boxer in the core for 10 years. I actually thought about doing an active-duty-transfer to become a helicopter pilot while I was in. I was in 2 different branches and grew up with the father in a 3rd so I've been around it alot. There is no difference in the closeness of the branches. Even within the branches there are "groups." Just don't want you going by all the hype on tv. Remember, you only see what they want you to see. On my naval base we had a battalion of marines, and I was just amazed at how bad they were treated.

Amen brother! I ship out to Bootcamp Dec 1st! Semper Fidelis:thumb:

UNsafe yeah the reason the wife would not like to move is that we just got done building a house and she is around her family in the same town. It would make things alot easier if she would want to move but her giving up her career and family for me, well......we all know how women are these days! Phunny I do understand about how tv makes it look, and I will consider other options aswell esp. since we have an airforce base close to home, might just have to look into that.

A friend of mine in my church is an O-5 in the Airforce base in Pittsburgh PA. He's tried to recruit me about 10 times, he really seems to love it. And he doesn't hardly ever get shipped out. That is the one branch I am not familier with.

Im in the army, if i were you check out the airforce, the other branches are more likly to move you away from your area. Score a good score on your asvab and you line scores should follow suite. Im not in the airforce, but start getting into shape now, it will help. Running may be the hardest thing. Reseach first, not all recruiters are there to help.

Im a Private First-Class in the Army and I LOVE it!! I'm an 89D (Explosive Ordnance Disposal Specialist) and I save Marines from IED's so join the Army brother!!! ARMY STRONG!!

Old thread is old.

nahh man its a good feeling saving other soldiers.

I've thought about lat-moving into EOD. I wanted to do it after my 04 deployment, but in the USMC you have to be an E4 or above to be in EOD, IIRC. I dunno, maybe after my current deployment I'll make the switch. I don't know... I just don't know if we'll have enough time.

I DO like to blow stuff up.
