Anyone got a plan to tackle 2G GST exhaust install?

I'm installing my 2G GST RS-R downpipe and catback exhaust tomorrow. I need to remove the old one and install the new out with out breaking the old exhuast incase I need it again.

Anyone got a plan for removal? The car will be jacked up on 4 jackstands and I picked up some PB blaster.

Just wondering which way to go about the removal since I never worked on a exhuast before. Like remove it all at one time...unbolt the catback, then removal the cat and downpipe or what...

I also bought some saftey goggles to keep the rust out of my eyes :thumb:

Thanks!

Its not going to be to hard. I would be sure to use some good penetrating lube to remove those rusty bolts. I heard pb blaster from pepboys works good.

Also, its nice to have 2 people to get the new system in place.

Exhaust work is such a pain in the ass. be prepared for lots of cussing on why the damn bolt wont come off:)

I'd make sure everything (ie. o2 sensor...) is unhooked from the exhaust, then take it all out at once. I don't know if the gs-t exhaust goes over or under the rear axle though, so it might not work if that's the case.

Just looking at the muffler it looks like it goes over the axel.

Yeah I got a full can of PB blaster :thumb:

Think I should spray it on, let it sit for a while, then turn on the engine to heat up the pipes a little before trying to break the nuts and bolts free?

if you plan on taking off the muffler in one piece, you'll need to get the rear of the car as high off the ground as possible. reason being you need to swing the muffler down so that the pipe that goes over the axle will clear it.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I dont think that letting the bolts expand will make them easier to take off. Unless you heat and cool them many times to try and work them free that way.

o btw, I couldnt get my 02 housing out when I did my exhaust and had to just cut the wires. :-(

wait you cut your o2 sensor wires?

uhh...

i used a set of torches to head the nuts up red hot and then broke them lose. if you dont have them go get a small torch end that screws onto a colman propane bottle. the kind you use when you go camping.

Hm, maybe I'll get myself a six pack for some motivation :)

Can anyone host a sound clip of the exhaust when I'm done installing it? I'm sure some guys might wanna hear how it sounds.

Well shes bolted up. I just have to tighten all the bolts and jack her down. To tired to finish it tonight and have work tomorrow morning :(

Some advice I would have given myself is screw saving the catback. Those 3 bolts on the muffler are so rusted it's almost impossible to get off. The o2 sensor and the down pipe was easy to get off though. Used a nice breaker bar and rented the 02 wrench from autozone. I'll see if I can get a review up this weekend. Thanks for your input.

BTW I ran the car with out a downpipe for shits and giggles. Smells like thoughs cars at great america that you can drive around. Was loud but not to bad.

kn00b
hehe, jk bro

Yeah, you will get used to it, with the turbo work that i have done and all the other crap i have had my exhaust system or at least most of it, off about 10 times, so it becomes routine after a while...hehe

good luck with future mods

Brian

If anyone wants a clip give me your email address. The exhaust is freaking quite! Sounds just like stock but slightly more boomy.
