im getting my exhaust done tomorrow at a shop who will install my 2.5 downpipe and testpipe and a custom made 2.5 test pipe back. i was just wondering if anyone on here has suffered legal consequences for running no cat, im in ohio and i know that its a 10k fine. i think ill just have them weld on the the heat sheilds from my stock cat and that will be alright, but i was just wandering, just drop a line

i lived in ohio and i never had any probs with that or even having a muffler. they dont even require an expection or emission tests do they? its been bout 10 years since i lived there and they didnt require an expection or emission tests then.

im suprised you have a muffler shop to do that, most wont mess with the cat or bypass it if it was originally equipped on the car because they can be fined for removing it from a car and not replacing it with another.

Almost every shop around here has a sign saying "If you don't ask me to remove the cat, I won't ask you to pay the $2500 fine."

Just pull your cat out and smash all the shit out of it then put it back in. I never bothered running a pipe through it or anything dumb like that and have not felt any ill effects from it (except for more HP and quicker spool times)

^^^ What he said; I don't know of any shop that will touch a car that doesn't have a cat; much less put in a test pipe for you! Maybe it's a sting operation!!!:p

I had a friend weld up a heat shield onto my test pipe; it looks really good, can't tell at all.

I've never heard of anybody getting in trouble for it, but I don't want to be the first. Oh, and I have a real cat I throw in for inspection time.

Just find a small, privately owned muffler shop, don't go to Midas or Meineke or something like that. They probably won't even care if you don't have a cat -- at least around here they don't.

i dont have a cat but i have conections in the inspection station were they dont even look at my car they just give me my sticker.

I know people that failed emissions because of it but that's about it. Who is going to check and see if you have a cat ya know?

This person right here didnt fail emmsions thouht, bless awd! catless!:thumb:

i have heard that now all they do is plug a thing to your ecu for inspection and if you dont have a check engine light then your good, of course taking crap off your exhaust will give you a check engine light. i Heard you can put some transitor things in your o2 sensor and reset the ecu and you wont have a check engine light. I had a friend with a WRX that ran with an open dp and pass inspection.

if your lucky enough to have an awd and they can't dyno your car like me the emissions for my 1g eclipse turbo is 254hc/ppm now to give it a comparison to a normal car like say my camaro i had before i realised a 4 cyl can be so much faster with having to fill up so much less. the camaro had a to meet 0.8hc/ppm the last time i went for emissions with my eclipse i put out 54hc/ppm . so i would say you could pass with out a cat but usually thats the first thing they check for under the car. pounding out the inside is a way to cheat to get around it i have seen it done, seen it done :shhh: if you have a i think 96 or 98 and up you just get the ecu plug in test for codes. not having a cat will not cause a check engine lite but they will check for one. this is why you would pound out the inside of your cat with a 96 or 98 and newer car. and for those of you who have know idea what i am talking about taking your car to emission, i hate you, you have no clue how good you have it.
