KA is reliable, but keep in mind they got weak valve train so don't try to rev them too much, if you plan on racing and want to keep your engine alive get a sr20det conversion. My friend has one but his valves are ####ed up beyond the point of really fixing them for cheap, but he can't do the swap right now due to low budget

Hey, I just wanted to get some opinions -

Buddy of mine is sellin his 1991 240SX notchback. stock motor, beat to hell, but has 2.5" exhaust and a wing that looks good. I was wondering if I should go after it, what kind of tuneablity do they offer, I know a lot of parts are gonna be "JDM" and all those ### shops so $$$ but like how hard is an SR20DET swap, any secrets that neone knows?
What do you guys think, I would really like a RWD car...i miss power oversteer.

you can also go to www.zilvia.net
My brother has a 240SX. They offer nice power. It's not as nice as a dsm but it's one of the most comfortable cars I've ever driven. They also have a great weight balance. Some people swap in SR20's, some CA18's, some turbo the KA24, and others just try to go all motor on the KA24. It's definitely a fun car. I nearly bought one when I couldn't find a dsm, but I didn't trust the person selling it.

I'm looking at a daily driver 240sx 1989... motor threw a rod... for 400 bucks... 75 bucks i can put the same motor in their (tranny was still good from orginal motor)

so basically I can have it runing for 475 + oils and such)

My question is how reliable and mpg can i be expecting...

(I drive fairly 20-30 % throttle)

Any comments welcome abotu 240sx (89 year)

new motor is coming from a automatic... has 118k miles grandma driven.

car is like i said a 89 has a few mods... exhaust/short throw shifter that sorta stuff...

I'll prolly change the exhaust unless its really nice. but i'll prolly change it to a stock exhaust/muffler... cuz its a daily driver.... and I don't want ricers to try and race it...

It's a Nissan, it will be PERFECT for your needs.

Nice find.

yeah, really nice find.

i get about 20MPG in the city and 28 highway in my 92 5spd coupe, and i drive it pretty hard

those cars have a strong reliable motor if the timing chain is changed when supposed to. A friend had 200K+ miles on his motor and it ran STRONG. Depends on the upkeep. Good find

the ka motor is what nissan used in pickup trucks, it'll be fine trust me LOL.

Dude, that is nice!!!

U know if u want u can have a beast in there!! Swap a sr20det engine on it and u have another drift powerfull machine.
Nothing aginst mitsubishi but there is a strong option a really good one.

not really the timing chain, but the tensioners you have to watch (also, take off the upper timing chain guide, not needed and it is plastic, if it breaks, say bye bye to engine)

some other sites to check out

www.nissaninfiniticlub.net

good luck with it whatever you do.

also, besides the SR, you can put the RB series engines in with relativly little work.

LOL.

You need not be near so defensive.

Screw the SR20det, swap in a ford 5.0 like Tom did over on life. Nearly 200 hp stock, N/A, and more torque than you can shake a stick at. Now that'll get you sideways. :thumb:

i saw that car posted on NICO i think. pretty cool swap, seems like you can fit almost anything into those cars. i don't know if i would want the added weight in the front that a V-8 would add (unless the tranny helped balance the weight out) i think it would jack up the balance of the car (good for straight line speed though)

also timing chain > timing belt (gotta love the KA and SR)

lucky find, I almost got one for 350$ canadian but the guy went and sold it to someone else on me. It had over 400 000 km's on it and ran GREAT.

watch out for the body though. and the shock mounts. and the hatch.
they arent good spots, be careful.

of course, that is if you dont experiance rust like i do.

main part on the hatches that get rust is by where the spoiler mounts (water gets trapped in there) but that can be solved by getting a couple like me

Too many people are doing SR20s in American spec 240s. I'd either stick to building the KA motor, or throw in an RB motor, which more and more people are starting to do, also.

240's are badass cars but the years from 89'-91' suck for if you want to convert to sr20 because the power steering pump is on the other side of the motor, but the k24's are pretty reliable.good find :thumb:
