Any cheap shops to do a timing belt?

Hey everyone, I need to change the timing belt on my car but its the only thing that intimidates me on my car. Ive done everything else to it my self including a clutch in 6hrs by myself, but just the timing on our car scares me a little I dont wanna bend my valves or hurt anything if I dont set it right.

Anyway, i live in Greeley and asked around in some shops and the lowest price I got was 500 and takes them about 6hrs to do.

Does anybody know a good shop or person that will do this for a cheaper price?

I will drive to surrounding areas, I would like it done in a day too, thanks

6 hours? do they take a 10 minute break for every 10 they work? most places charge about 4 for the TB and WP. i'd call another shop ### there is no way it takes 6 hours to change the belts

Yea thats what im saying, the time isnt a big deal to me but the price is.

the time is where they get there price. i cant speak for all shops but the ones ive worked at use a labor guide for there pricing, if the book says 11 hours to do a job but it only takes 6 you still get charged 11, which sucks unless your paying 6 hours for an 11 hour job, which ive also seen.

but in no labor guide does it show anywhere close to 6 hours for a 4g63 timing belt or TB and WP for that matter. 4.5 tops. if you were a little closer id say bring it and id do it

Yea that is true. I might just have to do this myself. The thing is where do you get the timing tools you need to do this like that long ass one for the tensioner I think.

ha, ive never used any specialty tools except the piece with the two pins to actually tighten the tensioner pulley against the belt before pulling the pin. and even then ive heard of alot of people doing it without that. i know you can get that piece on ebay pretty commonly.

as for the long one for the balance shaft, you can tell when its right as the marks will stay lined up when you let go of the pulley. if its off it will turn so the weight of the balance shaft is at the bottom. once you take the belt off you will see what im talking about

a waste of 24 bucks, just take the tensioner off and SLOWLY use a vice to push it in then put the pin in the end of it, or a small allen wrench if you dont have the pin. although i would recommend replacing the tensioner and all pulleys, which the tensioner comes already compressed

429 for parts plus the labor or 429 for everything? 429 plus another 6 hours labor is too much IMO. you could get all the parts yourself for right around 300

Yea it does sound like a good deal, he likes to help out the dsm ers a lot, and theyre pretty well known for their bad ass trannies
