Well, I guess I should make a post introducing you all to the project now that I've created a profile.

Just a little background on myself, I've been involved with 4G63's since around 2013 when I started working at a shop that specialized in them. Even before I liked the DSM platform, I realized the 4G63 was a very capable engine and started the process of swapping one into my S13 240SX. I had a built 2.3 stroker 7-bolt ready to go and had started to build a compound turbo system for it (inspired by helping John with his compound talon), until I ran into some financial troubles and abandoned the project. I've wanted another 4G63 ever since! Fast foward to 2019. This car was owned by a coworker/friend, who sold it to a friend, who parted some of it, sold it to another friend, who gave it to another friend, and then I acquired the rolling chassis hahahah. So here we are!

The car is a 1997 Eagle Talon, and has been converted to full 2GB Eclipse. I really enjoy Talon tail lights, so I may switch to those.

My goal with this car is to have a fun street car that I can take to the roadcourse or autocross whenever I want. Reliability will be paramount, so some less-than-common modifications will be done so I can have a capable performer that I don't need to trailer everywhere. The car currently has no engine/trans/t-case or front axles, so those are all things I need to acquire.

    Here's what I'm starting with:

    jyJjdBOh.jpg

    n4qvBDuh.jpg

    mdgHPnVh.jpg

My first hurdle is the wiring. I actually really enjoy wiring and have recently started building complete harnesses for people. The wiring for this car was/is in really rough shape, so I'm starting with the engine harness.

    X73ISq3h.jpg

    9liqHVfh.jpg

    LPobCXBh.jpg

    How I build harnesses:

    aPIiVcDh.jpg

The car was already using an Evo 8 ecu, so I'll be using the Link G4+ plug-in ECU for this case eventually. Starting from scratch with all new connectors and pins, and using M22759/32 tefzel wire.

    tH7lTUBh.jpg

    W7OvatEh.jpg

I'll be re-doing the engine bay harness afterwards as well.

I'll probably be dropping in a stock longblock and transmission to get the car up and running, but here are some things I have planned for the car if anyone feels like discussing:

TRE 12 plate Evo 8 rear diff.
Rebuilt transmission with Cusco front diff
Remote oil filter and thermostatic oil cooler
    Eaton MotorWorks coolant swirl pot
Integrated fuel pressure, coolant pressure, and oil pressure sensors for failsafe functions
    Exhaust manifold pressure sensor
    Flex fuel
    Kiggly crank sensor
    FEAL coilover suspension
    Volk Metal suspension arms
    Bobby's upper control arms
The car also currently had an ABS delete proportioning valve and such, and I'm thinking about putting ABS back in actually.

My biggest current debate is what to do with the turbo system. I could buy a bunch of stockish stuff to get the car running on, but I eventually want to run a small EFR, and it sort of makes sense to just have Morrison Fab make me a hot parts kit and never spend the money on acquiring stock parts I'm going to have to sell later...

Hopefully I'll get to work on the dsm this weekend, for now this Ferrari 348 harness is keeping me busy.

After getting rid of my RX-8 projects, I tried to push this thing back in the garage only to find the brakes had rusted up on me :(

Hopefully I can recruit my room mates to help me push haha. I think I've located a running longblock with accessories, should be picking that up in a few weeks.

Massive update I know. At least it looks good with these wheels on it.

Used my daily Mazda 6 to push the car back in my garage. Excuse the mess, I'm getting back at it after a couple years and everything needs a good cleaning and organizing.

Nice size garage. If my garage isn't a mess, I'm not working on anything ROFL. Looks like a 240 dash?

It has been and always will be primarily a drift car. It's getting a cage as it was literally coming apart at the seams. It needs a bunch of things right now. The engine that's currently in the bay is a VG33E that I was going to build a turbo system for, as they can handle 400-500wtq on the stock bottom end, but I'm up in the air about the engine choice now. I have a VG30DE with bad intake valves that I was going to put in it before that, and now Touge Factory has their K-series swap kits available, which are pretty awesome too. I'm leaning towards rebuilding the VG30DE and putting it in with a T56 with plans for boost eventually. It will see some time-attack style racing in it's life I'm sure.

Here's an idea of what I was planning.

    CtYcYWch.jpg

    vJaUkoFh.jpg

The next thing I'm tackling on the 2G is just cleaning it up, pulling the subframes out to clean and inspect, and starting the battery relocation into the spare tire well. I need to go over it and determine the condition of everything on the car to see what needs to be modified or replaced. I'm going to start taking a ton of pictures and really documenting the resto-mod process. I'm going to try and make a few videos as well, although I'm an editing newb and kind of particular about that kind of thing, so that might take some time.

Nice! Looks like you extended the factory lca. Isn't that turbo too big for drifting? There is so much aftermarket support for the s chassis especially when it comes to drifting. I've never drifted but it seems like a lot of fun, and lots and lots of tires LOL. Not sure if you follow Adam LZ, but man does he have the life. He's a well established youtuber and has built a variety of cars for different motor sports ranging from drift missiles to a fully built evo V. Impressive car collection to say the least and it all comes from YT money.

Yup, 50mm extended arms, adjustable tension rods, FEAL coilovers, wisefab rear suspension, reinforced subframe, etc. I'm familiar with Adam, he definitely has a huge following. The turbo is gone now, but it was just a 61mm S300SXE, fairly small for a 3.3 liter engine. Borg's just have huge profiles hah. I think I'm going to make a video covering both cars and after that split them up into series with some garage DIY and wiring stuff thrown in for good measure. Youtube seems to be where it's at these days.

    Warning: graphic rust content ahead!

Looks like I'm going to have to get a MIG sooner rather than later.

This is after a few wack with a wrench:

    UG9bd7ch.jpg

    fhNdhhlh.jpg

Cut back to decent metal, at least on the engine bay side. I'll have to get the suspension out of the way so I can see how bad the damage extends on the other side:

    CBlFM9Gh.jpg

    yqEVJgYh.jpg

    UC7tvsuh.jpg

A few people have told me this isn't worth repairing. I agree that trying to return this to an OEM look would be nearly impossible. I don't really care about that though. As long as I can restore the structural rigidity and seal it enough so it doesn't immediately start corroding again, I'll be happy. We'll have to see how bad it really is. The other strut tower is actually super solid, so I'm thinking this was a seam seal issue to begin with. The front of the rear wheel wells also have some rust on this car. I really need to get some propane so I can fire up the heater in the garage because damn, it's cold! Haha.

Cleaned up the rear trunk area, removing the wiper reservoir and the sound deadening in preparation for putting the battery in the spare wheel well.

I saw you post your harness on facebook a while back and I am more impressed everytime I see it. I would love an opportunity to learn how to make a harness like that. Very impressive.

I cannot WAIT to see how the progress comes along with the towers! The wiring work is truly amazing I wish I had that kind of aptitude for it. Perhaps id figure out why I can't get my alternator to charge right :banghead: you have gifted hands.

Thanks guys! Picked up a 64 block for the 2G today. It needs a line hone, but this will be a spare engine to tinker with and eventually build. :sneaky:
