A Questionable DSM Review...

When I read this I was quite shocked at how our cars are compared to z3's or a 'wannabe' boxter. The ultimate review is positive in the end but not without its insults. Read and "discuss."

I wonder how he can type up a review while sucking on a BMW so hard. If I wanted a goddamned Kraut car, I'd buy one instead of six TELs. I don't know where he's coming from even attempting the comparison: they just aren't in the same ballpark. In fact, one's a sport, the other's a library. And if I wanted a car with four seats, again the TEL wouldn't be a consideration.
Many automotive writers simply have no clue. I hope his review got him a good discount on his next nazi tuna boat tuneup.

This just in: DSM's are not God's chariot. I think it's a pretty generous review of the Eclipse, considering how sloppy the chassis is, how terrible the stock tires are, how the GSX's plow like a zamboni in a slalom course stock, the huge turning circle.... etc etc etc... I've never read a better complaint about the crappy-ass stock leather seats though.

what a terd. who would take a rwd, 1.9l, slow as balls z3 over a 220hp, 2.0l, awd "hip car". i love his comment how the RS and the GS get a 140hp VERSION OF THAT MOTOR. sorry bud, 420A, not a version of the 4g63t.

its all right guys calm down. I don't agree with his review either. You cant compare an Eclipse ro a BMW fairly. Oh well though, the write up he is working on now is probably bashing dodge cuz the Dodge Omni doesnt perform as well as the Dodge Viper RT10

Wow, you need to fix some stuff. What are you guys doing that plowing is a problem? Mine will toss whichever end I tell it to. Sounds like you're due for tires, shocks, and practice.

My biggest complaint about the leather seats is that they don't snuff farts as well as cloth does. Other than that, my brown eye doesn't see too well.

Have you ever autocrossed your car with the box stock suspension and stock goodyear RSA's? Hello understeer city and crappy handling!

Romp on the gas and you'll find the car understeering out like it was a FWD. Gee, thanks. Those items can be addressed by a good set of coilovers, Swaybars (MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST GET), and a nice front LSD.

In the rain, it's a completely different story though...

Hrmph, a stock street car not doing well at autocross. There's a shocker.
No, I've not autocrossed mine. IT'S A STREET CAR. I've not drag raced it. IT'S A STREET CAR. I've not road-raced it. IT'S A STREET CAR. I've not stood it on its tailpipe over a keg of dynamite to see how well it flies. I've not taken it down a boat ramp and wondered why it sank. I've not drifted it, hauled lumber in it, used it for pizza delivery or as a hearse. Because it's not any of those things. It's more a four-wheeled version of the old Kawasaki H-3, or the coffintank KZ-1000. Like a nymphomaniac with cancer, it may not last a long time, but it's a helluva ride while it does. However, and still, IT'S A STREET CAR.

Guys: It's a review from 1997, giving a review of the car from the perspective of someone who's not going to mod the hell out of it.

I think the review was good. He hit the nail on the head with the crappy stock shift; and yes, I think a 2g DSM is a little sloppy in the handling department in stock form. All easily fixed by any of us, but the average buyer targetted by that article was just buying a car, not a build-up platform.

Giving an honest impression of the car at the time and providing a positive review doesn't warrant being called a "diock", IMHO.

thats a nice review conpared with others. if you read one of the cars.com reviews of the 1999 eclipse, they bash the crap out of it and how it "needs a make-over" and you should wait for the 2000 eclipse. The best way to get an honest review of a car is to read the one from the first model year they came out.

As for him comparing us to those other cars, i dont have a problem with it, i mean we paid alot less for a better car all around.
