I recently bought an a/c compressor, from a 2004 mitsubishi montero. Im wondering if it would work on a 90 eclipse. I saw there's a triangle shaped connector on the compressor itself, and a small rounded one. On my engine harness i have the small rounded one, but i don't have the triangle plug on my harness, i could not find it anywhere, and the harness around that area does not look ripped, the connector or wires are just not there. I've been looking at a couple pics on ebay, about compressors, but i could not get very clear images, most of the 90-94 compressors that used R12, did not have the triangled shaped connector on them (or at least not seen on the angles of the pics taken), but 95-99 dsm's (r134) did have that connector. My question is, basically, do 90-94 compressors have this triangle shaped connector or not? Or the 90-94 a/c compressors are simply operated by the small rounded connector.

Thanks.

It wont work w out substantial modification. Save your time. The new DSMs do have the plug like you stated but the Montero's use a larger serpentine belt and Im sure the mounting brackets are different as well as the suction and discharge lines.

Well, no. This compressor does not use a serpentine belt, it uses the same belt just as any other 2.0 dsm, and it fits into the bracket without much modification which i can manage. My question was just, if the compressor would operate by just connecting that little round shaped connector. Btw, what is that triangle connector for? power?

That triangle plug is the electromagnet that engages your clutch on the compressor.
Like stated before, its going to take some fabbing but I'm sure it would work.

Now flow rates might be different, as well as it will be R134a, so you will most likely need to get lines from that montero and modify them to fit.

Whats the deal with this AC comp? It would be easier to just get a working unit someone took off their racer.

I have the montero lines with me so thats no problem. The reason i got this compressor, its because i got it for free, and besides that, im pretty far from the US, just to order a compressor. But im wondering now, how would i go about finding that triangle plug on my harness if there's none. Was this triangle plug used at all on 90-94 dsm's or not? Whats the round shaped plug for then. Thanks.

The triangle plug was on the OBDII USDM models. 95-99 they use R134a as you stated. The 1g models used r12 89-94 and didnt have the plug. I believe it may have to do with the cabin controls max a/c electronic temp adjustment etc. Like we stated it might work but its gonna take some head scratching and fabricating Idk if its worth it LOL

Good Luck

Thats what i thought about the plug. I also noticed that this compressor doesn't have a fill/evac port, like most r12 compressors have (i guess that's for disposal purposes). Ill see what i can do, i've got all the lines, and everything to build it.
