Had to let off as a sheriff was incoming. ;)

Suggestions, other than checking my TPS? ;)

What are you running for an ECU and chip?

If you're not on something with modified timing maps, than your "octane" value is low. This could be due to phantom knock, or possibly your real knock in boost.

We'll continue after that is sorted out.

Still running a stock ECU. (non-EPROM)

I have an EPROM at the house I am getting cleaned and socketed, then a Keydiver is going in.

It must be your "octane" then.

Reset the ECU and go for another run right away.

I'll tell my boss I'm leaving. :p

Do you have a link to something that explains individual functions such a s"octane" within the ECU?

No link, but I can explain it here.

The "octane" rating is the ECU's method of closed-loop timing adjustment. It's the "fuel trim" of timing advance, if you will. Every XX swings through the ECU code, there is a check that occurs on a couple different parameters. The essence of it is, if the car has a knock sum greater than 5, the octane value is decreased, under these conditions. If the knock sum is less than 3, the octane value is increased.

As the octane value decreases, there is a certain timing retard factor applied later on during the timing calculations. The end result is you get less timing advance than the standard map specifies, even if you don't have knock at the time.

I have watched the octane value decrease when the car was phantom knocking; it doesn't go down extremely fast, but it's not slow either.

If your car is knocking (either because of PK, or because of real knock) then your octane value may be down which will pull your timing down.

Thanks alot!

I seem to remember some info like that back in the Talon Digest days, but I thought it was only caused by actual octane differences like putting in 87.

Well, it can be, hence the name.

The ECU has no idea what the actual fuel in the tank is. However, if the car is knocking consitiently, then the odds are something is wrong, such as grandma putting a tank of 87 in the car.

I't's mainly a safety feature, which is why I delete the crap out of it. :thumb:

Like a front bumper? ;)

I'll be in touch, and thanks for the time.

You have more balls than me. I hacked the shit out of the bumper, but don't have the sack to cut up my bumper cover for more flow. OMG
