99 GSX Rebirth/Clean-Up/Build

I'm not using any on these small bolts. I took them all out without an issue and the car is 24 years old. The car will never be in salt/snow again. I'm not worried about it. I'll use it on some of the suspension bits for sure, though.

Also, don't ever plan on removing these in the future anyway hahaha

its more for rain also, zinc naturally gets corrosive and discolors then it can crack and lodge into the threads. its more to keep moisture from binding the two, salt and snow wont effect it up there but rain water will and that will eat into it over time. if you got them out without breaking then you are one lucky guy but 2 chassis i had both got snapped bolts in the rear. with all the detail you putting in i think a smear of lube will go along way in the future for you

Yeah, everything underneath the car will have a little bit on them for sure. I've never broken a suspension bolt though. I've always gotten them out with a little pentrating oil and some heat worst case! Car won't be in the rain, haven't had wipers in years

You were lucky! We do get some nice days but its always interupted by rain after a few days just to remind us its not a vacation spot and it is infact the UK so deal with it . I wouod not mind so much if it was a nice place like FL or somewhere nice

It was nice most days out of 10. Got really lucky. You would hate Florida 6 months of the year. Too damn hot. Too damn sticky. Too many misquotes. Can’t breathe outside. Etc etc etc. .

Yo!

I was in Hawaii for a bit and came back to get a few small things knocked off the list. I got all the bushings pressed into all the control arms, just need my subframes back so I can knock those out.

I got the OEM MITSUBISHI & GSX decals on the hatch. I wet sanded and buffed/polished these areas before putting them on, I want to get the car polished again when it is up and running so wanted these to be perfect around them.

Started putting some smaller things on the underbody like the exhaust hangers and splash shields etc etc.

Appreciate it! There are definitely things that I can still do, but I'm trying to get it running at least and then I can always come back to do a full foglight restoration etc. Just want to get it on the road!

Incredible and thorough as always. I do miss Denver at times, but then I remember how we have no state tax, no emissions or safety inspections, and as long as whatever you're driving has headlights, taillights, blinkers, and bumpers it's a solid pass from the state of Florida, and I'm kinda happy about my decision.

But man do I miss Bandimere Speedway, and Sante Fe drive(back in the day at least it was a hotbed of finding some good highway runs). The snow was awesome too, as I worked at a place called CAM Services that had a contract for snow removal out at DIA. If you could pass the security clearance checks you'd get like $40 an hour to remove snow and ice at the airport, which consisted of about 5% work and 95% playtime on ATVs and doing donuts in pickup trucks. Lol.

A few things have gone down since the last post.

I found out my crank is f***ed so I went with a new eagle crankshaft. The full drop-in motor should be ready any day now.

I did some miscellaneous installations of random small crap. Decided to re-do the fusebox harness and put the box under the dashboard since that spot is completely gutted.

Basically just cut all the pigtails, plugged them into their spots and will extend the wires to the new location of the box.

I had a shitty fusebox harness that I gutted and salvaged all the various wires so my extensions could have matching wires. Definitely a sticky tedious mess but will make things easier.

You can see here my 2AWG power from trunk where the battery will live to the passenger footwell where the distribution block and fusebox will be.

I'm hoping that when my long block is in and some last minute coated parts are in I can FLY to put this thing together. Interior will wait until the car runs and drives.

Yo!

So I started dialing in the new fusebox harness. There has been a ton of crap removed from this, so it is really just the following:

-RH Headlight
-LH Headlight
-RH Turn Signal
-LH Turn Signal
-RH Fog
-LH Fog
-RH Sidemarker
-LH Sidemarker
-Alt Plug
-Alt Power
-Rad Fan
-Engine Harness Plug

I want the fusebox to live under the dash, so I routed all the plugs to the drivers side footwell up and over the dash. Too tight to have these run under the dash, the pedals get in the way etc.

You can see in this pic how I'm starting with the wires hung over to the left, and as I complete them I'm looping them over to the right where the fusebox will be.

I am running a 4GA to the alternator from the fusebox, so you can see that over the drivers side wheel well, tied in with a few wires for the lights etc. Plan is to route everything and make sure it all works properly, then adjust routing to have the proper slack and routed in a good safe spot, and then do a final loom.

Can't wait to get this thing aligned and have the alignment guy crap himself with how clean this will be .

Also, all the manuals say to have the car on the ground before doing torqueing everything to final spec. How does everyone reach the upper control arm thru-bolt with the car on the ground? Lol

place the car on the ground once the shocks and reset again. measure the hub centers to a bit of masking tape on the arch's and then jack it back up on stands again, then jack each wheel up to the same height and thats very close enough within 1-2 mm's and thats have you do that much easier
