Hello all! Newbie first post, norcal native. Just bought my first dsm found it on a used car lot. Its a 1998 Eclipse Spyder GS, 2.4 liter and sadly automatic. I really wanted a clutch car but this car was soo amazingly mint and original it blew me away after i drove it and it feels like a new car. Obviously a garage queen with only 104,000 miles. Absolute dream to drive the auto gear box is a little disappoining but i use it for daily driving usually soo its not that big of a deal. I think for a 1998 this car is just incredible. What ive been contemplating although is whether or not i should evan modify or begin to touch this car! I mean it literally needs nothing but im coming from driving an NA miata and i did alot of customization and cool stuff but it was no where near as nice or original as this car. Should i modify it? Or at the least ive been playing around with the idea of doing a manual swap. All things here being considered, if im not too happy later with the auto gearbox i will sell it to another enthusiast. As for now its my daily driver :) let me know what you guys make of it. Do i dare modify? Or leave it alone

I wasn't aware that spyders came with 2.0s unless they were turbo, should be a 2.4 for drop-tops.

Modifying is up to you based on what you want out of the car. If it's just a means of reliable transportation, I wouldn't modify really, just keep it simple and maintained.

Nice find and welcome though! Make sure to chronicle your work, no matter what you do!

Hey thanks for the reply your 100 percent right, it's got the 2.4 liter my mistake. I fixed it This car is really growing on me and i plan on keeping it minty. All the car needs is some work on the convertible top, has linkage that has broke still can go up and down with some help. Im gonna work on that

Congratulations on this find! We applaud your decision to keep this stock. You see, most of us were not as fortunate to find a DSM in such original condition, so we are having to repair previous owners' handiwork, and that's when the modifying becomes a cost decision. If we have to replace an oem part, it is often just a little more money to buy the upgraded, aftermarket part.

Be proud to have such an excellent example of a DSM, and don't worry about modifications. Many of us are secretly jealous.

I have not seen another one on the road as clean whether it be a Spyder/hardtop or GS/GST ect. I know of one other in town also a spyder but GST. Its faded red and has a alot of miles. Im really greatful i found this one. Will definately let yall know if i do anything to it!

That linkage on the top was a bad design. Didn't fix mine, just handle it manually. Still have it?
