Well, GridLife Watkins Glen was a hectic event. Didn’t get the times we needed due to issues with the car. So here’s the recap:
Unloaded and got teched. The car never got balanced and aligned prior to the event, so we rolled across the comp scales just to get an idea of where the car was balance wise. Went out first session, and straight away, there was an issue where I could only go 20-25% throttle. Anything over that, it was almost like a rolling anti lag or something. It would just go flat. It would pull just fine to redline, make 15psi, just couldn’t go 100% throttle. Couldn’t even go 30% throttle. At the end of the first session, the power steering pressure switch blew out and sprayed power steering fluid all over. There was no way to get it fixed, so I just cut the belt.
Went out second session with manual steering, which was brutal. Very difficult to get around the slower corners. At the end of that session, we lost an oil line that returned oil from the accusump to the engine. So the hunt was on for a -10 hose and some fittings. Which I was able to find and make a line to replace the ruptured tube. It was at this point the rains came, and never stopped. Along with the oil line rupturing, the alternator harness burned up and killed the alternator as well. So we had some issues. My buddy Chris showed up with an alternator and we were able to get the alternator in and rewired. We missed the rest of Friday and the majority of Saturday getting the car fixed. Went out for last Qualifying on Saturday, in the wet with no power steering. Without power steering, if the car had started to get away from me, I wouldn’t have been able to catch it. Not sure where we came home, but it had to be dead last. It was a very difficult weekend, but we never gave up. Kept pushing to get the car back out and we turned a few laps at the end there.
We’ll get it fixed up for NJMP in July. Here’s some pics from the weekend.
