My next modd is fabbing a set of 96 rear brakes off a 96 vette. They have the same overall height of 49,9 mm. The diameter is 304.8 mm and vented. They are 80 mm thick. The caliper is a PBR that has a built in emergency brake.
The rotor must be machined for the center hole to 89mm and redrilledl for are bolt pattern.
Next fabb some brackets for the caliper
Make some custom brake lines
I don't think the emergency cables will fit, longer cables.
I will keep you posted on the progress

Due to the lack of rear brake up grades .That is a project I would love to see. :thumb:

I fitted the rotors today.I machined the center from 67mm to 89mm.I also had to drill 5 new holes for the wheel studs.Every thing fits perfect.I am waiting for the calipers, about 10 days for them.Keep you posted

nice. i'm subscribing because i want to hear about this. there is really no cheap option for 1g people to upgrade brakes and keep the e-brake.

My cost for the rear brake upgrade
70.00 rotors
170.00 rebuilt calipers with pads
custom hoses not much
60.00 emergency cables 2
30.00 machine work,my lath is not large enough
0.00 I will make my own brackets

So you are saying that he rotors you got did not have any holes or you got some other holes drill on them besides the ones they already had? PICS please.

Sorry I do not have a camera.I will take some photos as soon as posible. The rotor is drilled for a corvette.I had to drill new hole for the talon. Not very hard.

The caliper is made of aluminum by PBR.It has an emergency brake with it.The Corvette rotor is 12" and 3/4" wide.It is also vented. The stock is about 10.5" and 1/2" wide and solid. I am waiting for the calipers, then I can finish the brackets .I will make some custom hoses.I think I will have to find some longer emergency cables

Cool project for a 1g! Do you have your fronts done? The Baer kit would be a perfect match. FYI, cheapest GM OEM Corvette rotors you will find... ROTORS

I built my own front brakes.I got PBR calipers,2003 cobras.I fited crown vic rotors. The rotors are 12" x 1.18. I fabbed some brackets and brake hoses. Then a fabbed rings for the rotors. You can see some photos in my gallery.

This weekend I fabb up the bracket and spacers. I made the plates out of 1/2 steel and the bushings from 1" round stock I will have my friend cut them out with the plasma cutter on monday.I plan on installing them next weekend.I will have some custom brake lines made. The problem I have not research, the hand brakes cables.I will have photos soon. It was alot of work for me.At one point I thought they would not fit. If anybody knows where I could get custom hand brake cables please let me know.

Its so funny becasue people look at me weird when they see my plate is from Alaska... almost like... they are trying to find out where my igloo is and why I don't look eskimo LOL.

But anyways, glad to see someone enjoying the Ak made beer!! :hellyeah:

I just about got the brakes done. I am lacking my friend cuting out the adapters ,adjusting the parking brake and bleeding the brakes.I will have photos soon.

Looks great! What made you go this way with the rear brakes ? I have the bigger rear rotors from TCE but when those wear out maybe this would be a better bet since the parts are pretty cheap and easy to get, even here in sweden.

I upgraded my front brakes and I wanted to upgrade the rear brakes. I must have looked for 2 years for some brakes to upgrade .I found the Corvette has the same height on the rotors as our rears. Also the caliper has a hand brake with it.I must have 5 to 6 days to fabb these brakes. The caliper weighs about 6 to 7 pounds. They are made from aluminum.
