The Beginning

Okay so, I bought the car about 3 years ago for $1800 with a turbo timer and a shitty 30-something mm boost guage and the rest was stock. The owner prior to the seller snapped the t-belt (big surprise) and damaged the head pretty bad so this guy put a head on it and contacted me VIA a "wanted" add I had posted on the local classifieds. (I had a '92 N/A Talon at the time). I was instantly in love with the AWD, I remember it felt so fast at the time haha!

Here she is when I first bought her:

I felt like a king driving this car around LOL I would always wake up extra early and cruise it around before I had to be at school.

Wasn't long before I started to notice some blue smoke, sure enough I had friends there to rip on me about it...:tease: I think that's when I joined tuners and narrowed my problem down to 1 of 3 things: Turbo, Rings, or Valve seals.

Me, being young at the time decided that the turbo was blown and bought one of those Evo 3 16g "GT" turbos from extreme psi. (everyone insisted that I don't get an ebay turbo.) Along with an ebay manifold. Later I found out that the turbo was the same as the ebay turbos. Sure enough, it kept on smoking so I sold my 14b and bought valve seals.

Pics with the turbo:

Once again I felt like a boss, popping my hood every chance I could get haha.

I found some rims i liked on the classifieds for a decent price with rubber so I picked them up.

I think they were just some knockoff ebay wheels... Here they are on the car:

After the wheels I figured it was time to try and start raising the boost to make some power sooo.... Rather than getting a full exhaust or even a FMIC/intake I decided to do fuel mods... LOL I don't know why, I think it seemed alot cheaper at the time instead of dropping $700 on a TBE or $500+ on a IC setup. Besides, I already had my mind set on upping the boost haha.

I bought some PTE 680cc injectors locally, aswell as a SAFC 2 that my buddy sold to me for $100(yay for good deals), a wally 255, MTX-L wideband, glowshift boost gauge, and a logger from 1glink.com

Raised the boost, learned how to piggyback tune, and made some more power. All in all, I was pretty happy at this point.

I also painted the valve cover red with black lettering, you'll see it lots down there. vvv

I drove it around like this for a while then the winter came. Keep in mind, this is just around the time the Ken Block youtube videos were trending...:ohdamn: You've probably already guessed what happened LOL. Got too cocky and smoked a curb sideways pretty damn hard...

Bent the drivers side of the subframe pretty good.

I bent that out the best that I could and a couple weeks later the tranny went on me. (Had problems since I bought it) So she was parked for the rest of the winter.... And I bought this '85 Celica GT-s for the meantime.(SO MUCH FUN)

This is when I started to live on dsmtuners and I really started wanting to put some money into this thing.

This is just within the first year of owning my dsm! I will update the above with more pics and will continue my story below when the time is available.

Check out my current mod list to get an idea of the cars transformation over these 3 years!

Year 2: Chasing power with a chinese 16g(no racial)

As my car sat at my grandma's house covered in snow and pinecones, I was at home racking up as much money as possible from a part time grocery store job. I saved as much as I could that winter and the first thing I bought was a new tranny(used) from a local guy. He said it shifted good so I paid him for it and brought it home. It sat in my garage while I waited for spring to roll around...

March came around and it was time to spend my hard earned cash!

I bought all of this at the same time, so there's no particular order!

The transmission that the guy said was good, was definately not... I got it in and you can probably guess how excited and ready i was to go drive this thing around with all the new shit.(keep in mind that it has been over 7 months since I last drove it) So I drive it down the drive way, and everything seems fine, clutch feels sticky as hell. LOVE IT!. I get going down the road and when I try to shift into 3rd, it goes in but revs like it's in neutral... WTFWTF So I try 4th. SAME SHIT! So by this time I'm pretty pissed and dissapointed that I gotta drop the tranny out again...

Brought it in to get looked at and rebuilt and turns out the 3/4 shift fork was bent, and the roll pin was nearly sheared off... The guy was a friend of my dads so he just replaced was was ruined for a case of beer.(yay for good deals again)

Lets try this again... I repainted and put it back in, but this time i was gonna make sure I could get the tired rolling before i lowered it off the jack stands. 1st, 2nd, 3rd! 4th!! It worked! So by this time I'm f#cking excited and couldnt wait to get this thing down off the stands. Once it was down I started it up to let it get warm before I take my baby out for a cruise:cool:. So I'm sitting in the drivers seat while it's warming up(It's in neutral at this point) and all of the sudden i hear a loud CLUNK! and my car stalled out...
50275_156523251033408_6042_n.jpg

I couldn't get it out of third now! It was f#cking stuck! I forced it in and out a couple times(probably shouldn't have but idgaf, i was pissed) and no matter what gear I put it in, the transmission was always in 3rd. I tried with the levers directly on the tranny and everything, it was screwed... Soooo, I dropped it out again. Fast forward a couple weeks; Brought it in and just paid for the rebuild. Repainted(AGAIN). And put it back in the car, this time I wasn't getting my hopes up... Started and drove awesome! FINALLY! I only had a couple months left of good weather which sucked though, but I learned alot.

She ripped! I tuned it too 20 psi and I'm thinking I was making 300awhp give or take.

I sold those ugly ass ebay rims and painted the stock rims bronze:

500HP Goal

Year 3. I'm working full time with a decent income now... More car money.

Bought a 1990 laser turbo for my winter car. 138000km on it when I got it, ran perfect, fully stock. Paid $800.:thumb: Not bad!

Here she is (after i did a little bit of work to it, fixing rust and paint):

I bought these Wedsport SA70's w/ 90% rubber I found locally for a price I couldn't resist. There all chipped and painted blue right now but obviously I'm going to repaint...

Here they are:

The rears are 17x9(or9.5? cant remember) and the front are the same same minus an inch width. Yes I'm running staggered, and yes they are wide, I'll do what I need to make them fit.

Also got these locally for $40 barely used:

I bought a fresh rebuilt, never ran, 8 blade hx35 w/ 38mm tial wastegate, .55 BEP housing, -10AN drain, o2 housing with open dump pipe, and 2 oil restrictors. From a member on here for a good price.

I'm still looking for a 7 blade hx35 though, if I can find one for a good price I will use it and keep this as a backup...

Cleaned up the head a little bit and did the oil port mod yesterday:

They're not perfect yet but they're not finished obvs still have to strip paint and polish them both up to a mirror finish. But i really like how they turned out especially the intake mani.:thumb:

Little tip: For better crankcase pressure relief, you can use the brake booster nipple on the back of a spare intake manifold in place of the PCV valve.(Only if you are using a check valve)

Heres the nipple:
992E3D99-CF62-419D-9718-5A23C60BB999-10660-000008B6744D4211_zps0b1b5def.jpg

Heres the nipple compared to the PCV valve:

It's actually quite a big difference in ID between the two, more noticeable in person but easy modification either way.:hellyeah:

Here it is screwed into the VC:

Ya, ya. I know glowshift sending units are garbage but I'm connecting it with Jay Racing Remote Oil Pressure Sender So hopefully that will help reduce vibrations and increase the life of this gauge setup.

I bought the gauge with a giftcard I had from christmas so it's no money out of my pocket, and in the end if i need to, I'll just buy an Innovate..

Got bored today while I was waiting for some local guy to come buy my safc off of me so I started tucking my engine harness. I tucked it behind the brake line and under the fuel filter. It's pretty much sitting down on the rack ATM.

It's crazy what a little bit of wire aranging can do! I'm gonna take off the plastic cover on the injector wires, run the wires up the the injectors from the bottom side then I'm hiding everything else under the intake manifold. I'll extend wires where I need and everything else will be relocated lower on the firewall.

My meth kit showed up on thursday:

And my knock off greddy showed up on Friday LOL, I guess we'll see how well this hold up to high boost... If I have to, I'll buy a genuine greddy diaphragm.

Still waiting on more parts, some of which will most like be showing up next week.

Head showed up last week! Was planning on using that one up there^ and bringing in to a local shop for a valve job/bronze guides/polish but I bought this better head from a member on here which saved me some money actually.

The head has 6000 miles on the valve job, and 3000miles on the guides and port/polish.

SBI stainless steel 1mm oversized valves
Bronze guides
Intake/exhaust both ported/polished

Just talked to the guy from STM, made a big order about a month ago and they finally got all the parts in now so he said it'll be shipped on monday/tuesday. I'm definately getting excited! Really want to run an hx40, but I'll do that next year haha!

Cracked open my ebay BOV today to see if I got lucky and received one with a good diaphragm in it.

LOL Definitely not... So I'll either just make one out of some bike tire tubing, or I might just buy the NGR diaphragm for $40. They're tested to hold up to 100psi, so I know I won't have any problems running 30psi.

NGR makes a good BOV if I remember correctly. Some people even buy those rather than looking for a real Greddy. I love the build too BTW. What brand of paint did you use for your wheels?! They look great and REALLY compliment the red.

Great job and keep it up!

Thanks man, I just used dupli-color, bronze and clear. They haven't chipped at all, and when I clean 'em up they still look exactly how they did right after I painted them!

I'll be running the SA70's this year though, I'll most likely paint them the same color.:thumb:

Some more parts showed up today from STM finally

I'll have to grind the block a little to fit it

That's for another day.

Really wanna get the car running, weather is getting really nice here and everyones taking their nice cars/bikes out. Just doesn't feel the same without my talon. Love the weather though haha.

Grinded the little nubs off to fit the kiggley:

Now it's ready for the shop to see if the crank bores are within spec or if it needs to be align honed.

I'm fairly certain you can't just pull out main bolts and put some ARP studs in and call it a day. All of the engine builders I know say that you need to get the block machined with studs while they line bore it... I could be wrong but worth looking into?
