not here to ask questions, just kinda share my experience.

first of all, my shift cable boot broke about 6 years ago and i zip tied the boot back on somehow and it lasted until the car had engine failure, maybe a year. well then the car sat 5 years. the rubber was gone and the cables needed to be replaced.

since they were on high on crystal meth when they made the 1990 model dsm's and everything was totally different it is sometimes extremely hard to find replacement parts (at a reasonable cost). searched for a week or two, found nothing.. well i have a 93 gs nt parts car.

So i decided to take out that shift assembly, after searching i found you need the;shifter base, cables, and the brackets on the transmission ( everything ROFL )
so i proceeded to take it all out.

well i have no idea how in the flying #### to take off the horizontal arm on the transmission, ive tried beating out what appears to be a pin of some sort in the hole, i tried drilling it out , etc etc. no luck. so i made an adapter. here

after getting the car driveable again, about two days later broke third gear shift fork that had been modified allready with extra material welded on after the roll pin. here

replaced it with an evo steel shift fork, thought problem solved! here

<a href="http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f224/mxdawg121/?action=view&amp;current=20111006200608.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f224/mxdawg121/20111006200608.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

a few days later 1st, 2nd, Free rev, Free rev. now stuck in third again. :banghead:

all too familiar with me now, i can take it out and apart blindfolded.
(mind you im doing this in a garage by myself, the RnR anyways)

Searched some more, found somebody had broke 4 shift forks in a short period of time, and somebody replied asking if they had a 91-94 shifter in a 90, then im all :hmm: continued to state he may be "overthrowing" third, since the shift lever isnt the correct ratio.

So after called shep trans and getting to talk to john shep ( i was as excited as a girl at a backstreet boys concert in the 90's (or a ####) ) for some reason i thought somebody told be he offered financing. well it isnt offered, i was just going to finance a dogbox and be done for now. ANYWAYS.

I just wanted to fix it and prevent it from happening again so i cut another piece off of one of the 4 awd 1990 trans i have ( they all have to be ####ing 90's of course ) and made a template from the 93 gs nt ( fresh rebuild trying to sell )
and started fabbing up a REAL adapter.

Well i haven't put the transmission back in yet, but i will tomorrow , and then i can find out what else i can break! :p

well, i thank you for you response!

However i just ended up welding an extension onto my shift arm creating a replica of a 91-94 shift arm. and it works perfect! so far ... ROFL

That's what other people have done as well, obviously pressing out the pin if the tranny is out of the car is the best way to go.
