A while ago I traded my old '88 Crown Victoria for a 1990 Laser. My friend was driving home when the car lost all power. I went to go get him and I tried to follow him but the car wouldn't even make it up a steep hill. The car does start but it kind of sounds like a tractor. The turbo was broke but he didn't have any problems. The timing belt isn't broke and is actually pretty new. Does anyone have any ideas on where to start looking? The car has been sitting in my storage unit all winter but summer is coming and I'd like to get it working again.

So your car lost all power and it sounds like a tractor. Check oil level if you had it in storage. If it's really low, you might have seized the turbo and running on a very restricted intake and exhaust with the low compression pistons on low lubricated internals.

i think i know what this guys talking about, i have no idea what it could be though. my car does something like this: yesterday i was driving along normally and i started to slow down cuz i was coming up on a stop light, so naturally i stepped on the clutch and took it out of gear, but instead of falling back down to its idle speed, it just died. so i started it back up again and it was chuggin away like an old V8 or like a tractor, i guess, and the check engine light stayed on. to hold the idle i had to rev the engine every so often but it wasnt revving fast like usual, it was taking its lovely ass time trying to get to 2000rpm (about 3-4 secs @ WOT it took to go from about 1000rpm to 2000). all this while im still sitting at the stop light, and finally the light turns green and i start to let out the clutch slowly and the b*tch almost died on me when i finally hit that threshold of friction (it felt like it was running on 2 or 3 cyl), so i rev it up higher to about 4500 rpm and start to let the clutch out slowly again and the car finally starts to move like it should for a normal driving launch, but while i was still letting off that clutch the car decided to work all perfect and new again and i launched from 4500rpms under full boost.

this has happened to me before yesterday and it was doing it to me today but not as bad. sometimes it even happens to me when im just drivin on the highway normally. so yeah im kinda pissed off cuz i dont know where to start with this one. any help is appreciated

PS - my turbo's not broken, its not my oil level, and my car hasnt been in storage all winter

If the turbo seized and blocked the air way what kind of problems would this cause? Won't it just not have any boost and perform like a non-turbo? The turbo seizing is a very good possiblity. I personally have never driven the car yet. Could it possibly be the intake gasket? Can you use the "key dance" method to get codes for a 1g?

hmmm chugging. I had this once turned out to be a fouled spark plug and two bad wires....my car was only running on two cylinders and 3 occasionally. changed all the plugs and threw a set of magnacores on it and was good as new.
