So I know about the inevitable crank walk on our 7bolt dsm but is it possible to but a new block from a 6 bolt right on with my original head

Crankwalk is not inevitable and has been severely blown out of proportion. Also 1g 7 bolt engines hardly had any issues due to having a better oil squirter design and 2g 7 Bolts made in later years had split thrust bearings and they don't have as many issues with crankwalk as the earlier blocks did. But it is in no way inevitable that you will get crankwalk even if you have an early 2g 7 bolt.

Things you can do to prevent crankwalk
-Change your oil frequently
-Don't install a heavy aftermarket clutch until/unless you absolutely have to.
-Disable the clutch switch to eliminate dry starts
-Eliminate the oil squirters and replace the main bearings
