I am building a 6 bolt to put in my 7 bolt 96 Eagle Talon AWD.

Its a 7 bolt manual trans with a 6 bolt block.

Do I need a 6 bolt flywheel or 7 bolt?

If it's a 6 bolt engine you need a 6 bolt flywheel. The 6 bolt/7 bolt is referring to how many bolts there are fastening the flywheel to the crank. A 7 bolt flywheel will not fit a 6 bolt engine and vice versa. There isn't a 7 bolt transmission, just 1g and 2g.

You need a 6 bolt flywheel. Doesn't matter what trans you have.
Flywheel goes to be on crankshaft flange, if your crankshaft flange has six bolt holes you need a 6 bolt flywheel. If it has seven bolt holes, you need a 7 bolt flywheel. Flange bolt patterns are different, so you can't go wrong.
