sorry guys i got there way too late. I was hoping to find someone help me with my link set up. anyone local to NJ?

Just curious, did anyone get a count of the number of DSMs and people that showed up to the meet?

Yeah, last years was by far the biggest we've ever had. But I still met some new people and had a great time. I was def a little disappointed by the turnout, it seemed like everyone bailed last minute. I had three evo's say they were coming out and one S2000(it's turbo'd and makes almost 500 WHP so I told him he would probably be pretty well accepted even though its a honda at a mitsu meet), but once saturday hit, none of them were able to make it for one reason or another.

Ya, it seemed like a lot of people didn't come, or came and left early (not sure if the food issues or the heat were the reason, although I know some people mentioned they had other commitments later in the day).

I'm going to have to rethink the food situation for next year so that we don't have issues like this past year.

Thank you to everyone who came out, as well as those who brought something to contribute to the cook out. Hopefully everyone had a great time, saw some nice cars, and got to meet some great people.

If anyone has any comments, suggestions, or constructive criticism, please let me know. I'd love to know of anything that people didn't like, or thinks that could be improved for next year.

For the next year, you should try to get some local supporting vendors,Like ExtremePsi,JMF,JNZ.... Make some Competitions: best interior, best exterior, cleanest enginebay and so on....Maybe even change a place to like near some lake or something like that....... Just my suggestion

^...Vendors/Competitions/etc Sound Good! It was a Good Time but seemed like it was thrown together a little fast. Can't wait till Next Year. Any chance of Another Meet this Summer...!

What was the problem with the food? everything seemed good to me.

Some people who committed to bringing major food items didn't show until late in the meet. So a group (thanks again BTW) made a run to get stuff. Otherwise, we wouldn't have eaten until even later.

Overall, it was fun!

I agree with Brian, Wes, and Marius, that there should be some brainstorming done about how to insure that food arrives around 10am when the Meet begins. Having the food available when the Meet starts could allow for its preparation in a timely fashion, instead of having people leave the Meet in a scramble to get enough food. As much as I understand that it is a “Car Meet,” I think the food makes it more social because a majority of the people are in the pavilion area at the same time.

It would be sad to resort to having the Meet organizer purchase all the food, and then rely on contributions (whether it is prior, or during, the Meet) to compensate for the expense. Nonetheless, if this year’s Meet is any indication of how future Meets could evolve, then some thought needs to be done about “commitments” to bring food when the Meet begins.
Jim
(OK, I stated it…someone had to…:coy:)

I agree with the vendors/competition comments. I tried to get some vendors involved in last years meet, but no one wanted to. I just asked them to bring some examples of work (welding, powdercoating, etc.) or some stickers to hand out. No big commitments, not asking for them to hand out free parts, etc.

The competition thing was also proposed last year, but didn't really go anywhere. I'll have to go reread last years thread to pull out the relevant info about that and re-evaluate what was said and what ideas were running through my head about it. Then I'll probably start a new thread with all of these ideas to get some stuff flowing, feedback from everyone, etc.

As for the lake idea, I'll have to look into that Marius.

I think one issue I'll take care of for next year is bring all of the stuff to get the grills going (since lacking charcoal really set us back) and then maybe some food to get us going, unless people bringing it will be there on time. I think that was the major issue. And maybe see if I can think of a way to get more people involved in bringing stuff so we don't have 10 people bringing food for 70 people. I know some people wanted to donate, so maybe I can open that up before the meet and then use that money to get food.

Just throwing some ideas out for now. Keep a lookout for another thread about these issues/complications.

Mike and I didn't make it to the meet this year or any of the previous years but just by going by the list, for all the people who said they were going, not that many actually volunteered to bring something. There were maybe, ten core people who offered to bring just about everything and pick up the slack for everyone else who weren't willing to contribute.

Brian, I would almost make it a requirement that anyone who wants to attend the meet should contribute one way or another. Whether it's by bringing some food, condiments or making a small donation of say, $5 to you or whoever's coordinating the event to help cover expenses. Stopping off at the store on your way to the meet to pick up a bottle of ketchup, a bag of chips or a couple liters of soda really shouldn't be that much to ask. I find it crazy that some people would be willing to drive two hours each way to the meet and not even think to bring anything. It's like going over someone's house for a BBQ, dinner or a party and walking in empty-handed. WTF

Oddly enough, the cashier at the grocery store said that same thing (last line from your post).

I just don't know how to make it a requirement and uphold that. It'd be easy for me to say "Ok, I'm bringing everything for the cookout and then everyone can contribute." The few questions are:
1. Will as many people show up?
2. Will I have more people drop out at the last minute?
3. Will it "hurt" the vibe of the meet?

Then there's some people who say they're scrounging up money for gas to get there so they can't bring anything. Yes, I understand some people live that way, and I hate to hear about it.

I just hate forcing people to do something. I feel a meet should be like a family get-together, in the fact that everyone shows up, has fun, and contributes something. Otherwise I'd feel like the meet is more like an organized get-together with me catering it.

But I do agree - it shouldn't be hard for someone to step up and bring anything to this meet. I think the charcoal is the single most expensive purchase. You can get a pack of hot dogs or hamburgers for a few bucks. If everyone brings one or two things, no one should be spending more than $5-$10.

I think it all boils down to DSMers are cheap LOL

Perhaps having someone at an enterance requesting "parking fees" at the least? Have people do it in shifts so not a single one or two persons are there all day.

That or if you want to eat or drink bring your own stuff. If you want to bring a communal dish then bring it but dont list it down in case it's not brought. This way no one is dissapointed with not having anything to eat or drink.

Heres my pics enjoy!!

Ill agree, this years meet was kinda.....eh. But still a good time nevertheless, just wish more people manned up and brought shit or even showed up for that matter LOL. Oh, one more thing......

WHO BROUGHT THE CIVIC?!?!?!?!?!? And parked it next to us??????? :barf: LOL

If anyone has some hi-res photos of my Talon, I'd really like a few. My roommate buffed it the evening before the meet, and by the time we got wax on it, it was too dark to appreciate the shine. He was hoping someone snapped a photo so he could add it to his buffing portfolio.

I do apologize for that error on my part. I went out with my boy the previous night near Rutgers. The idea was to drink a little and head home. What we didn't realize was how hot the area was when the bars closed at 2 AM. Basically we were stuck on a street corner with our cars in front of us for 2 hours while we watched a squad car roll down the street every 5 minutes. Eventually we just hitched a cab. Didn't wake up till 10.
