hey everyone, i'm sean! i am the nissan forum mod at hondasociety.com (don't try to make sence of it) and i am active in a few other forums like the-lot.net and nico.. still, i've sold my nissan and i'm going to be getting a nt talon (95) and i would just like to greet all of you and begin relentless questioning to learn more about this new car..

now for my question, being as though i have the tools and such, is it possible to swap a 4g63 engine into my car? i've seen a few "cyclone" swaps into 1g's and i can locate 1g engines for pretty cheap, but i don't know the complexity of the swap for a 1g engine into a 2g, otherwise i would try to find a 2g engine for it, but i don't know the minor differences of these cars..

are the mounts different for the 420a?
where can i source a usdm engine? (checked the junkyards and they are mostly ford escorts and other such crap around here..)
has anyone done this swap?

and while i know there will be those of you calling me newb and such telling me to search and saying "just buy a turbo dsm it'll end up costing less" well, please refrain.. i am only getting this car because it's free and i really can't stand the chrystler engine attached to the automatic slushbox.. and don't worry i've done swaps before and have plenty of friends who can help if i #### up.. oh, and nice site!! :thumb:
either way, thanks alot
later,
Sean

ummm from what I heard it cant be done, im sure it can if you got like 20,000 dollars...but you know whatever. Some guy already tried it and he ended up having to buy a whole front clip. Everyone warned him but he still went through with it. They got turbo kits for the motor in your car right now. Sorry if i didnt give you the info you wanted to hear.

www.turbosystem.com

1 that's a silly price for that
2 it is the same chasis as the turbo version, my guess is if it uses different mounts then the only possible mounting problem would be the cross member which should bolt in fine due to the similarity of the chasis
3 i don't want the 420a engine

still, i just want to know the minor differences and such of the two engines and drivetrains.. from 1g to 2g, 420a to 4g63.. noone thought you could bolt an rb25det into a 240 but now it's done quite often and can be done with just a skyline front clip.. really it takes a bit of research and i would like to do it, so anyone with any useful info??

1. He's right, do some more research and you'll find out how expensive it is
2. a built 420a is just as good if not better in some aspects
3. if you want to debate me on this be my guest
4. but what do i know i'm just a little wiseman
5. check my profile if you think i'm lying

There are plenty of threads addressing this topic, so I would reccomend that you search. But here goes, the You would need to do custom motor mounts, crossmember, wireing harness and all engine wireing, ECU, dash guages, etc, etc, etc. This would be real expensive and real hard. You would need the whole front clip of a 2g regardless, and it would have to have everything including the dash and all. The motor is completely reverse, including the drive train. I believe you would also need the suspenshion, because of small differences. Nobody has done this before so nobody really knows what has to be done. There was one guy who got it in, but his car never ran right again and eventually cought on fire, yes COUGHT ON FIRE. The engine you have in your car is a great one. Rebuild the bottom end or get the stroker motor from howell. Then get a turbo kit and you will make more power than most 4g63's. Plus you'll be lighter and have forged internals that are much better than the stock 4g63's. Basicly you can spend $6,000 on a turbo kit rebuilt bottom end and supporting mods to get you into the 13's, or you can spend more than $6,000 to swap in STOCK 4g63 power, and then dump more money into the mods to get the 4g63 to be fast. It's your call, but it'll be an expensive lesson if you do it the hard way.

You know it just boggles my mind how people intend to buy a car they don't want in the first place. If you don;t want the 420A in your car then just buy a GS-T or GS-X. But if you insist on your thought pattern, then what ^^^^^^ they said is true. Up to you if you wanna spend a small fortune to get a little power or spend half of that to get a whole lot more.....

by far the silliest post.. i'll quote myself to retort.. ".. i am only getting this car because it's free and i really can't stand the chrystler engine attached to the automatic slushbox.. "

modest eh? oh well, i do understand the problems with this swap, recently seeing the engine bay of my friend's tsi, is the left mount actually bolted into the right strut tower? still, saying, "don't do it" isn't informative. i might have some questions for you though..

hey look a post that actually answers what i asked. :thumb: ok, now most front clips have all of this on them so i don't think it should be a huge problem but hey..

still doing this to be educated, now please continue..

ps: sorry i haven't been on in a while, i've been busy getting the car. (bunch of stupid prerequiments that needed to be taken care of)

Trust me brother, you want no part of this swap, unless you just want to say "I did it". The engine you have in your car is awesome, it just needs new pistons and rods to put out a ton of power. Trust me, after the turbo kit at stage 2 level, you will be beating gst's all the time. Then when you rebuild the bottom end of the chrysler motor you will be beating Almost everyone depening how high you go. For less than $6,000 my car will be in the 12's (or maybe 11's)

You have a bad a$$ motor don't swap it, just because our motor is in a NEON dose not mean it sucks. HRC runs 11's with no head work! Rebuild + turbo=fast car it will be cheaper and you don't have to worry about crank walk.

I live on a planet where you find great deals...LOL Most of the stuff I have was used when I got it. But my car is home to a 2.2L stroker, a star stage 2 kit with the e trim and BB option, a CM stage 4 clutch, quaife LSD, Stage 3 axles from driveshaftshop, ETC, ETC, ETC. Everyone can't get the same deals I did, that's for sure, but if you can find things at the right time you will be able to come close. Basicly I spent $6500 in mods so far if you include guages and all that (just go fast parts and guages) I'd go into all the details but I don't feel like typing that much. James went a different route than me as well, he has the hahn kit and has had to replace several pieces in the kit to get where he is, plus he paid more to start with. He has also built his head, and done some porting and what not. I still have a completely stock head. There several different ways to make power with this car, and they all have different price tags. Basicly, if you do the swap, and then try to go fast it's going to cost you more in the end. If you build up your 420a it will be the cheaper and eaiser and more reliable way to make power. Trust me there is lots involved in this swap and lots to mess up. Go to 2gnt.com, and you will have a new found respect for the 420a, or at least read up on a guy named the1bill. He has had a hell of a time swapping in a 2.4L 420a which is the same motor just a little taller. Now for this swap your talking about all those pains x 500. Everything would have to be custom made, and I mean everything. Do it if you want, just be prepared to have a really really rough time that may even end up rendering your car useless.
