Hello all.
Some of you may have heard or read about the SuperLiteCars Apex car kit that they have been developing for some time now. It started off as a kit that would use the cockpit cell of the 2g and the drive train but have it set up for a mid engine RWD setup. Well, the developer of the project decided to scrap the 4G63 drive train idea and went with VW as the preferred and officially supported drive train option. You can find a thread related to the topic here: http://www.gt40s.com/forum/rcr-forum-rcr40-slc-p4-mkiv/36893-superlite-gta-115.html
I personally lost much interest in the project myself, but recently I had a spark of inspiration. While the rest of those interested have moved on to VR6 and LS V8s, I still want to shove a 4G63 in one. Anything is possible with some modifications really. I dont think it would be too difficult to come up with a setup to make the 4G63 work. But!! I have a even crazier idea. I am not experienced enough, or technically savvy to be able to really figure how to make this work, but I want to make a AWD 4G63 Apex.
Now bear with me here, I am brainstorming and pretty much not very informed in all things DSM. But my line of thought is place the engine in the new designated spot as per the plans of the new layout. Can we somehow attach a Evo tranny to it? Since they are already flipped 180 degrees from our engines, that would place the transfer case output pointing in the right direction for the front wheels to be driven. Correct? Would something like that work?
I am not sure on clearance or even bolt pattern on any of the different Evo transmissions so I don't know what issues would have to be faced so I am bringing it up to those more experienced in this subject. I have a GST shell and a GSX shell with the drive trains for both. I was really interested in the Apex before the announcement that the 4G63 would not be supported as I could use what I already have. This sound like a fun project though.
This is just a idea and I have not purchased anything yet. Is it more trouble then it would probably be worth? Depends who you ask I guess. Lets not get into the "But why?" portion of it as I know some will not understand or even agree. Lets treat is as a exercise in creativity
