Hey guys I have used the search function and all and cant seem to find an answer.

I have a 98 eclipse RS it does have the 420a engine in it. It was a builder car and I swapped in a dash and gauges and what not from a 96 talon. I have dash lights and all but none of the gauges actually work. The car starts and runs and I can drive it around. I was wondering if you guys may help point me in the direction I should go to figure out what is going on. I understand I should check the fuses and the connectors and all that I just have not had a chance to yet and I was more wondering what specific fuse and what specific connectors.

I dont know if it really matters but the engine has been rebuilt and has a stroker kit making it a 2.4 instead of a 2.0 and it has a more aggressive cam and all new everything else.

Solution
OK so I figured this out.

So just so everything is clear I took the dash and gauges from a 1996 Talon ESi and placed them in a 1998 Eclipse RS.

What I found to be the problem was that there are 2 plugs from the dash that plug into the harness behind the radio enclosure. If these plugs are not plugged in none of your gauges will work. I believe the grounds are passed from the dash through the connectors to the body of the car. You will also notice there are 3 ground wires that come out of the harness and bolt to the body on the passenger side of the radio enclosure at the very bottom.

As of now all gauges work.
Did you happen to get the dash and gauge cluster from a non turbo also? The wiring is different for both turbo and NT and if you pulled a turbo dash then you have the incorrect dash harness unless you swapped it out.

I pulled the dash and cluster from a 96 talon esi so its pretty much the exact same as the 98 eclipse RS or at least thats what I was told and from research it seems to be true if I am wrong please correct me. Also it is just the original gauges no aftermarket stuff as I want it to look as close to stock as possible hints a stroker kit instead of an aftermarket turbo.

The gauges worked fine a week ago when I drove the talon home after buying it so I know they are good.

The lights work just fine I get illuminated gauges and dash lights and all its just none of them move.

correct me if I am wrong but a 1996 talon esi (420a engine) should have the exact same wiring harness as a 1998 eclipse RS (420a engine) and to be more specific anything any eclipse RS 1996 to 1999 should all have the same wiring harness with small differences such as if it has a sunroof and what not. Is that not correct? I am almost 110% sure they are the same. I mean I know for a fact the engines are the same and I know all the plugs and what not are the same cause I plugged most of them in already I think the only 2 I didnt plug in are the ones behind where the radio goes and if thats the problem please let me know. Other wise I have put in all of the interior from the talon into the 98 eclipse and it all fits and the engine is the same and I have mixed small parts from the talon such as the heater core and blower motor and all.

If they dont move there is a problem there, i would find the correct one for your car, seeing nothing moves.

I never wired a 2g like yours but my 1g talon ive done the whole harness, so im unsure of the wiring of your car. I would swap out gauges and see if that fixes it.

So I looked up the directechs on both cars which is basically a list of certain wire colors on the car used for remote start installation and so on. The harness for the gauges is not on there but if the wire colors between years differ most likely almost all of the wire colors will differ. All of the wire colors are the same which would lead me to believe that the harness should be as well.

When you say...
The gauges worked fine a week ago when I drove the talon home after buying it so I know they are good.
.
...you are talking about the set of 98 gauges not the new ones right?

And when you say...
I think the only 2 I didnt plug in are the ones behind where the radio goes and if thats the problem please let me know.
...what plugs are you referring to the radio harness?
