I have just purchased a 10'' mr. gasket fan to go in with my existing oem rad fan. i see a number of threads on here about this, but, none of them really seem to have a firm answer. So,

1.) what is the best way to wire this fan? I am really considering putting it on a switch or an ignition source, as i really dont trust my existing fan. It has not been consistantly turning on...

2.) Any detailed sources on how exactly to do this safely? It seems like a good idea to have a fuse/relay, but, i could be wrong...

Any help is greatly appreciated! I just want to solve my current issues!

NOpe, just stick those things through your radiators fins and pull them up tight... personally i will never again run those types of fans. I replaced the large fan inmy 2g with one (even tried a few brands wasting several hundred dollars) and the car still would overheat anytime i turned the AC on.

I made new IC pipes that snake around the OEM fan i put back on and now i was running my AC all day in 90* weather :D Plus after a few years those mr gasket style fans wear holes in your radiator and you'll have to replace that as well. Just a list of my bad experiences with aftermarket fans :( BLA

P.S. Wire the fan to the 2 of the 4 wires that are for the "high" speed function, i believe turning the AC on will activate those wires, but i'm not sure, i just tested them till i found the right ones

well, the good news is that i no longer have AC in the car, so overheating due to AC is out of the question:hellyeah:. This fan probably isnt truely needed; im using it more as a precaution...The whole story is the other day i was driving and the car overheated... I stopped, popped the hood, but was disappointed when i realized the fan had not turned on. I decided to change out the coolant temp sensor, flush the rad. and test the relays...Today i let the car idle and i put an occasional load on it and it never went higher than 213 degrees during idle...I just want some added insurance...

can you get a picture or two of your current setup? Also, what was it that caused the holes in your rad.?

I'm a 1g, but tied my fan into the stock wiring. I was running a Flex-a-lite efan for about five years which recently died on me. I was using the straps that go through the radiator fins with no problem. I just ordered a Spal fan which I'll tie back into the factory harness. I also picked up a 2nd fan and relay harness from Spal which I'll wire into the car with a switch in case of emergency. Spal also sells a kit and temp sensor. You could install the temp sensor and add the relay kit with fuse and it will operate the fan as needed.
