For a 1G, you'd want to use one size smaller sidewall. Example - 2Gs used 215/50/17 for the 17" rims - you'd want 215/45/17. This is true across the board, from RS to GSX - they all used one size larger sidewall.

I ran into this problem with my 1.8 - when I put 2G RS 14" rims on, the stock 2G tires made my car feel like it was floating, so I immediately swapped back on a set of better fitted tires.

No idea on the spec's needed but I can tell you this. My friend has a 90 Laser RS Turbo and he is running my old stockers off my 95 GSX. They fit fine. They are the 16 inch swirlies. Stick out a little bit on the car but it makes it look so much better.
