I don't know where you guys are getting this 170 mph, B.S. When I had my 16G and the other regular mods I was running 17psi boost at about 5,000 ft. (elevation) and I was out of gearing at 137mph. I probably could have hit 140mph, but the car was really struggling. The car was also lowered 2 inches. My new transmission has the TRE 25% taller fifth gear, so then I should be able to hit 170mph.

My fourth gear takes me to 140 ..
i've been to 130 on a t 25 and 150 on a 16g...it took a good while to get there but it will happen
I dunno where your getting 140 ? Unless your saying thats ALL your could pull to...The original post is about what the car is GEARED to we all know a stock gsx would never get to 170
What a car is geared to and what it will do is completely different..a stock C5 covette is geared to 230 + mph but will it ever see that on stock power? hell no..they top out at 170 something when fifth gear runs out they shift to 6th and have plenty of gear left just no power to pull

Oh, OK now I understand :coy:

I thought 2g's have 1 of the best coefficient of drag ratings for a production car??
Both the 1Gs and 2Gs do- the numbers will wander a bit, but both were a fair bit under a Cd of 3. I've not seen numbers about what differences the basket handle, fingernail, 1G wrap and no spoiler will make, or if the air they're in is dirty enough to not matter. But surely the different front ends should matter some.

They do:

95-98: CoD rating of .29
99: CoD rating of .30 (not sure why it changed)

For comparison:
C6 Corvette is .28

sleek looking isnt automatically aerodynamic..

1988 to 1994 Audi 80/90 (car before the first a4 came out..yes..the ugly box)had a cd of .27

Thats because most cars designed in the 80s were designed almost exclusively by wind tunnels to help fuel economy. This is also why so many cars look the same.

Hey Guys!

Well I am back from Europa Park and ALIVE!! Lots of commets to make, but i'll try keep it short.

Firstly overall I am very satisfied! Condsidering my car is pretty much all stock (besides an airfilter and a B&M short shifter) i was satisfied with the top end side of the performance spectrum.

Once I got into Germany, there was a long boring strecth of highway (with constructions going on) limited to 120km/h (around 75mp/h).. after about 40 mins of driving on the Highwway just after the constructions limit was still 120km/h. This was around noon so we decided to stop at a autroute rest area (autoroute=highway in europe). Anyways whilst eating on the pinic benches a dude with a bright yellow 360 Modena parks behind my eclipse, gets out and walks aroung his car admiring it. This guy has also come in from switzerland, ZH number plates (Zurich). N E ways. We finish eating, and we get ready to go. I check the oil level in me car (for those who read my problem about the Oil problem I had a few days back will understand) and then start the car up let it warm and leave. About 2 mins later on the highway I see the 120km/h sign barred off! I grin and floor the pedal. Easily I climb to 160, then 180, at 190km/h till 4th gear aroung 6800 rpm, I shift to 5th and still pulling with ease to 210, 220. My girlfriend is reading her homework and didn't really feel the difference of speed until around 210. Basically on the way going to Europa Park I got up to 220km/h. I could not go any faster because I had to slow down each time cause (as the guy with the N/T eclipse with a turbo from Germany said) there was always a nerd with a Mercedes driving slower on the fast lane, and they do not budge!... (I didn't realize until we got to the right exit that I had my A/C blasting away since it was really hot saturday!)

After getting to the Park and having fun, I took the car at around 10pm thinking there would be less people on the highway. I was mistaken though still very many cars, but... this time I remebered to switch off the A/C and I kept my eyes only on the road, and my girl friend was checking the speedo. I got up to around 230, couldn't be able to go faster because I always was coming across other cars, and was afraid to overtake them at high speeds thinking they might sverve onto my lane! (better safe than sorry... or dead ;) ) .

On the way back today same problem to many cars to go past 230km/h. But still overall I am more then happy! And also to be safe at home. I did 230 on 5th at around 6k rpm. I know I could have made it to around 250 if i had the guts and room to do it, and all this stock!

Just for the note: last time I went to Europa park was in 2003 with my CRX vtec baby (thats where my name CRiXman comes from). I got up to around 215 with her, she was bone stock though, and I miss her a lot!

I will keep you all posted once I add my greddy intercooler piping kit in and T 28, to see If I get any faster.

C.

For thoes who didn't know 1 MPH is equal to 1.6 KM/H, So at 230 KM/H that would put you at about 143 MPH :thumb:

Nice Work!!!

^^^ eh, i almost reached that in my 1.8L once. took forever though. :rocks:

This site has been useful to me at times.
http://www.bullittarchive.com/images/calculators/mph_for_given_gear.htm

It will calculate your mph in a gear, per rpm. It seems to be pretty accurate, and if anything it will give you a good idea of top speed by gear and rpm.

The tire diameter of a 95-96 GSX is usually about 25.3 inches with the 16 inch rims.

The tire diameter of a 97-99 with the 17 inch rims is usually around 25.5 inches.
I am not sure on 1gs. These are with new tires of course.

I think air resistance should not be too bad, at least not worse than other rounded sports cars. I have read it is the .29 stated.

The gear ratios on AWD models are. 1st=3.083 2nd=1.684 3rd=1.115 4th=.833 5th=.666
The final drive, or rear gear ratio in that calculator's case, I believe is 4.929.

The rev limit in a 2g, I think, is 7500 RPM. In a 1g I think it is a little lower at 7300 rpm.

Imagine Shepherd's lengthy gears, shifting at 9500-10000 rpm.

The only other thing to take into account here, is the fact that at a higher speed your tires will become more ablong and the diameter should increase, causing your top speed to be slightly higher than if the tire actually stayed at the same diameter all the way through.

To convert from kph to mph divide by 100 and mulitply by 62. At least that is how I do it. You will get a rough idea of the speed.

Where do you find those numbers?----
The car information manual that came with the car. WTF The one that came in the big binder.
I don't think those came with the car, they were for the media at the time of the car's introduction.

In a modified 95 GS-T I've gone 163mph
In a Heavily modified 91 Talon I've gone 160mph

both were caculated by using a GPS sensor... :thumb:

My Speedo only goes to 145 and I went past that. So I dunno how fast I was really going. That was with a 14b on 15 psi. Modertaly modded car.

And Defiant, I got some vid of me on the Green Hell. I making a video now, the preview/teaser will be out end of this week/early next week. I making a movie.....

Passions of DSMs

I have had my 1997 Eagle Talon Tsi Awd up to 125 mph a few times with lots of pedal left but I am getting a bad vibration so I always back off. anyone know what this may be....unballanced wheels, bad cv joint, bent axle, bad u joint on back drive shaft....? anyone?

This thread is a year and a half old. Let it die.

I think that vibration is an indicator that your car shouldn't be going that fast. Slow down.
