trying to swap a 2G engine into my 1G talon

can anyone recommend a solution for the lack of a front mount (behind rad) or mounting holes on the 2G 4g63 engine block since the 2G mount was moved to the transmission?

I realize most swaps are opposite to mine so not finding much info about this issue..

There looks to be a couple of bolt holes on the 2G block near enough to where the mount needs to go so possibly a relocation of my 1G mount on the subframe is in order just wondering if anyone out there has any suggestions or experience with this, I also have the 2G mounts.

I think you need the 2g motor mounts.

I do have the 2G mounts but since the front mount from the 2G was actually on the transmission instead of the block and my 1G front mount was on the block I'm not sure what the best approach is to make this work in my 1G since theres no mount on my 1G transmission

maybe you need the 1g mounts idk.

I'm hoping I can piece something together LOL
I'm just curious to see if anyone else has ran into this little snag and their solution

I say you probably need the 1g tranny mount and 2g mount in front of the cams. Are you using the 1g or 2g transmission? put 2 and 2 together and make one that works.:thumb:

haha I guess I should have specified, I'm using my 1G transmission and the 1G's dont have the mount on the transmission

may end up having to relocate the mount on the subframe and somehow manage to get it bolted

the mount in front of the cams seems a little bit easier to work out but yeah looks like it might take a bit of modding, I'm hoping to be able to just use the 2G mount in front of the cams it looks possible

Idk what you mean by this. My transmission has a mount bolted to it.

I guess what I mean is it seems the 2G mount was relocated from the front (by rad) of the engine block to the transmission, my 1G transmission has no mount where the 2G trans did, and the 2G block seems to lack bolt holes for it as well so it leaves me scratching my head about a solution..

You are going to have to fabricate mounts for both the firewall side of the block and radiator side of block, aka: front and rear mounts or roll stop mounts.

Provisions for these mounts are not found on the 2g 7bolt block, therefore it is not a direct bolt in for the 1g. With these being the weaker, more undesirable 4g63's, most people wont waste the time making them fit when a 6 bolt drops right in. There was a thread from sometime last year of someone doing it but I cant find it right now.

Lol what a mess of a thread. I'm bumping it because I'm doing this same swap into my 1g AWD. The 2g auto trans that I'm going to use has a front engine mount on it that doesn't line up with the mount point on a 1g's cross member. The OP was asking how to get this mount fabricated or what needs to be done to get it to work. When I finish mine I'll post any gotchas I find in this thread.

This isn't a pipe dream either, other people have done it.... and I too will do it. This is my way around having broken trans parts all the time on a high horse power car.... the 2g auto should hold up great.

I did this years ago.

Why? Because I had a low mileage 2G block and a 1G with a spun bearing. So, I pulled the 1G 7 bolt out and dropped in the 2G bottom end.

We fabricated up our own roll stop mount to work with the 1G front engine mount bracket. The other end bolted to the lower ear of the block where the bottom transmission bolt goes through (if memory serves me correctly.

Use a 1G driver side motor mount BRACKET (the part that bolts to the block).

Best solution is get a 1g motor. Everything else is custom. Only way I've seen it work is with a 2g transmission also and relocated mounts. Would be easier and cheaper to get another engine.
I'm sure it would be..but not economically feasible... If Id known more about what I was getting into I could've done just that..but alas my ignorance will be my challenge..thanks for the help.. any tips or a link in which i can call upon would be very helpful
