Looking to buy a stock, ready to drive 4g63 turbocharged engine for my 97 Talon. I have cash on hand and didn't want to risk buying online and having it shipped and get ripped off. I'd rather deal in person. I already have a turbo. Just need the engine.

Why not just rebuild an engine for it yourself? I just find it hard to trust anyone anymore unless I know them. :(

What's wrong with the old engine? I'm in Nashville and wouldn't mind giving you a hand with a rebuild since spares around here are few and far between.

I found an engine in Pulaski. My reasoning is so I'll have something in the car so I can drive it while I rebuild the other. I can't afford to not have my AWD at the ready, since my Prius sucks in snow and rain. Seriously. It couldn't get up the driveway hill in a dusting of snow. I had to back it around the house. It was sad. Lol

I don't know what happened to the old engine. It just started smoking like a chimney as I left the gas station. Shop said it failed a compression test and the turbo seals and o rings were shot.

Same here. Luckily, the engine I bought was from a state trooper, so I'm pretty confident there's nothing to worry about. He got rid of his Eclipse to focus on an Evo.

I think you should get a second opinion. What were the compression numbers?

I agree with Duncan, test the compression. Could be as simple as a blown turbo seal. Any noises to accompany the smoke, or just smoke?

Just smoke. Otherwise it runs fine. But I mean clouds of blue smoke to the point of not being able to see or breathe. It was coming through the vents and everything.

I don't remember the numbers. It was over a year ago now. We were thinking the same, but we don't have the tools to test it ourselves. I was keeping an eye out for an engine anyway. Like I said, I wanted a spare so I won't have to be without AWD.

There are plenty of people in the Nashville area that would be happy to give a second opinion and guidance, myself included. If it comes down to it just needing a new turbo, it would be a shame to pull and rebuild the whole engine.

I don't blame you for wanting spare parts as I keep a lot.....LOL. I have 4 spare motors, 3 good awd trannies, 3 parts trainees, and tons of other parts. I would definitely figure out the smoke issue and gather parts for another engine build.

Damn. And my husband thinks I'm bad. Lol. I'd love another trans, since mine's already a replacement from a burn car, but automatic AWD transmissions are nearly impossible to come by. Last time I found one was over five years ago in Georgia or Florida.

Yeah. If it was driveable, I could bring it though any time since I'm working in Nashville right now anyway, but I don't have the time right now with work. Come May I will. We planned on replacing the axle at the same time with whatever we end up doing, since it's needed one of those for awhile, too.

Lol....there's no such thing as too many parts. I don't mind automatics, but at least they're easier to rebuild. I've rebuilt quite a few.

Really? Would you be willing teach us when it comes time for a rebuild? I've got my eyes on a performance rebuild kit from IPT. Just waiting until I need to rebuild it to do so.

Yeah sure. It's actually not that bad. The biggest thing is to make sure everything stays clean. You don't want to contaminate the inside of the transmission.
