Just trying to plan ahead and see if I can swing it this year. I'd like to attend this year (can't bring the car, costs too much RN) and am wondering what people's vote is on camping vs hotel. I'd love to camp, but don't know what space will be like, and also would like to be able to meet ppl, maybe get my party animal out of the closet a bit :shhh:
If I go I'll fly in, should be there morning of the 16th, might rent a car, I'll have to check costs. I don't mind weather, I've camped in some very inclimate conditions so I can make do.

So what's the experienced view from people that have been? Never having been I'd just like an idea of what to expect, maybe things to bring aside from some basic camp gear etc.
If I can go I'd love toeet some people, put names to faces etc.
Best case scenario I will take my car or one of the others if I can finish them and make a road trip out of it! :hellyeah:

I'm on the same boat @ThunderChild.

Where can you shower?

What's the cost of renting a room?

Haven't been to the track in forever. What's the cost of admission and cost to drag race? Think it was $20 for admission and $50 to race back in the day.

Is there some sort of shower at the track? I figured I'd bird-bath it if needed.

Figuring out admission fees would be nice too, but I just planned to have enough money to cover a good portion of things if I go.

I'm currently tight on money. Wife had 2 gum surgeries $20k, bone graph & tooth removed $1400, Dog had acl $3k and splenectomy $4k all within the past two years. They don't understand that my dsm needs care & lovin too. :idontknow:ROFL

I'm guessing if I drive there, I'll spend at least $4-500 for a 3 days. That there is SD upgrade, BOV upgrade and a new boost gauge. Tough decision for me.

I wish I could make it out. It's such a great time, and it really is something all DSMers should experience.

It's tough for us West coasters to get out there. I've been dreaming of setting up an event out here, but have no idea where to start.

In Spokane/cda area we have a drag strip w/ auto cross and road course, giant hotel and casino that's literally right next door (as well as tons of other hotels within 25miles, giant event center in post falls (20miles away) and lake CDA 25 miles away. Hosting around here would be so easy with all the accomodations and facilities, I'm just not sure how to go about getting it going.

West Coast/NW DSM Shootout interest anyone? Haha.

Is there any place for info on the shootout besides Facebook? I don't rock FB and it's hard to come up with info, unless I'm looking in the wrong spot..

They have showers at track for $4. Just make sure you have a towel and shower shoes. I camp there every year and I love it. Every night you will inevitably meet someone new there and end up drinking and hanging out with random people. I could go on for days with all the cool people i have met over the last 10 years or so. Everyone from the big dogs to the guys in NT crap boxes hang out and its awesome. I go to a lot of different events and the shootout is by far the most tight knit. Its literally a giant family. We had to pull a trans last year and everyone was lending us small tools we didn't have and asking if we needed help.

I'm on the same boat @ThunderChild.

You can always go to the hotel and party, but you are not going to get a room at this point. It will be long booked by now. Admission is still about the same. They made people pay extra to park in the pits last year if you were not racing. Which ended up being like the same price so you might as well have raced if you wanted to park in the pits.

@ThunderChild if you are coming out we have a special spot that my group and I park and camp at every year. Its an awesome spot. You are more than welcome to bring a tent and join us for the whole weekend and hang out / ride along for some passes. I owe you some beer anyways for helping me out with that balance shaft. We have music, beer, food, and awesome people. If you are interested just shoot me a text. You probably still don't have my number so I can PM it to you if you are interested. I can also send you the list of things that we bring each year to give you an idea of what we take. There is not shortage on room for camping though that's for sure.

That goes for anyone interested in meeting up as well. If anyone needs any help or anything while at the shootout were more than happy to help.

Buschur used to have it posted in a forum, but I can't find it anymore. Looks like IDRC is using Facebook for all the event info now that they run the event.

A big west coast DSM event would be cool, but organizing something like this for the DSM crowd would be very challenging. I don't know if two major events would be sustainable - one might end up cannibalizing the other. Would probably need to do a joint venture with other platforms like the Shootout does with GTRs to get a large enough entry list. Personally, I think if a West Cost event was created it should be something different so that it doesn't compete too much, as it wouldn't be able to replicate what the Shootout means to DSMers. Regardless of how it's structured or what it looks like, it would be really nice to have one on this side of the country. Sacramento is fairly central in terms of geographical location :)

If I am not mistaken wasn't there an attempt at this in the past that failed? I thought I remembered hearing about something of an attempt for a West Coast DSM shootout. I could be wrong though.

Yes there was one at one point. I don't know how well it did, how many were done, or what happened to the event. I'll have to do some research.

There are showers at the track, "small fee", you can stay at the track. There's a cluster of hotels in Milan, oh, just off the turnpike, and thats where the party happens. There is a campground there. be well rested, late nights and early mornings. best to get there thursday night, and plan on leaving monday morning.

It was great meeting you chris years ago, good to put face with the founder of this amazing forum thanks again for keeping this forum going for those who really appreciate the platform

I'm praying I can make it again this year! Last year car broke while cruising around which left me unable to race... Let's just say, I need some revenge!

Thanks @jakk220 ! If I make it I'll definitely try to meet up with you, pretty sure I still have your #. I'd be happy to meet/hang with anyone from the forums who's willing to!

Good to know there's some facilities there, I'm not too worried about that tho, hell if there was a river close by I'd just jump in every other day, haha.

This would probably be the best course of action, contacting an organization that already deals with it and market it for this side of the country. I'd love to make it a little different, not a carbon copy of the shootout, but still just a big gathering. Idk I'd have to see if other ppl had good ideas to add in, cuz as soon as I think about bringing in other car groups, it just becomes an IFO or HIN thing in my head.
I could easily do Sacramento, I have family in the Galt/Lodi and Stockton areas and it's only about an 18-20 hour drive from where I am, faster if I'm daring :D

Either way, I'd just like to see a West Coast thing happen so it's easier to get some of us to it, vs driving/flying 2k+ miles across the country. Still I'm gonna try my hardest to go this year, and if it doesn't happen I'll plan for concrete next year.

Chris, Thank you for creating this site! There's no way my car would be where it is today and me have the little knowledge of DSM's without the help of this site and its members on here. Truly an awesome community!

That trip was a big deal for me in more ways than I imagined. I got to meet and have beers with people I had been chatting with for years. People who have been active here on the site and have helped sustain the vision I've had for this community from the beginning. It was great to see their cars in person - almost like meeting their spouse in a way. Being an introvert, I wasn't sure how it would go but the interactions I had were priceless and I felt so much gratitude. I'd love to get back there again and see all the people I hung out with on that trip again, and meet others as well. I'll have to find a way to make that happen.

Curious if there are hotels near by that accept trailers. I'm planning on coming from NY with my wife and trailering my dsm. Just curious what guys do when they trailer to the track that don't camp out.

Yes, almost all hotels in the area are good with trailers, some even park them across the street at closed business parking lots and walk to the hotel to sleep, the community is well aware that Norwalk is a race town and this isnt the only event like this up there. As said showers are easy, they have them at the track and hotels have outside pools (if you need to), for $10 you can strip down and I will personally pour a gallon of dollar store water on you and for $5 more I will soap up your back after around 3am, also dont forget that Cedar Point amusement park is right down the road on Lake Erie, its not to be missed if your from out west, look it up.

You have zero excuse, you can literally walk there, if you start Monday.

Hey, first of all I want to say how happy I am to have found this thread. I've been wanting to attend the shootout for over 10 years an living in Texas and having little money to make the trip even possible, I've never even really tried to make it happen. This year I'm finally seriously considering going, and am in the same boat as you ThunderChild and hearing you ask the things you did and everything everyone else has said really helps me see it as more of an actual possibility for me. Its going to be a long drive, expensive vaca, and an unforgettable experience for me to meet all my DSM fam from around the country.

So on that note, if anybody from the Gulf coast area thinking of driving to Ohio to attend get with me. Maybe we can go in on the travle expenses and make it cheaper for each of us.

Also yes like Ludachris mentioned, more detailed info is available about the shootout from buschur racing directly.

Sadly have missed a few shootouts lately. Have been to 21st, 23, 24, 25th. They are a great time, I always booked early at the motel 6 in Milian witch is the party place, normal night is a few hundred people outside. Everyone needs to attend at least once. We even trailered our dsms our from iowa for the 21st.

Camping at the track is free with the 3 day wristband, other campgrounds are around the area for around $25 per night, showers at the track are open until like 8pm and have a few dollar cost to them, restrooms are open all night at the track, I like to camp that way I wake up already at the track after being at the hotels, plus lots of fun at night at the track too if you prefer to have a fire and not hit the hotels.
