Making some progress, the 6 bolt is out of the donor Talon and I must say I’m very impressed with the condition of the cylinders and pistons. The plan is to leave the rotating assembly alone so I have confidence in that moving forward. Old build from previous owner, forged Weisco pistons, 8.3:1, 86mm bore. Should be a descent foundation for my plans.

Being on a budget, anything that can be improved and reused will be at this time, using my judgment to keep the money for the things that one wouldn’t skimp on. The flywheel and pressure plate both were cooked with hard spots all around. I was able to remove enough stock on the flywheel to get past but not the pp, as I’ve heard .012 is the max, and that became immediately apparent with the pp on the lathe and the hard spots deflected my bit, so I ground it. I’ll use a new disc and see how it performs, though I’ll have to verify clutch arm positioning and geometry and shim if necessary.

Finished my valve spring compressor, inspired by Jafromobile . I’m trying to stay with the 6 bolt donor head and leave the 7bolt original with its block in case I ever decide to build that.
So far I have one outer 10mm exhaust manifold bolt hole that is stripped, redrilled, jb welded, and completely unacceptable, I can fix it though. The exhaust valves have some pitting and I may try to get away with a light grind of the face and then lapping. The head deck has been machined, but unfortunately I’m seeing at least .010” difference from end to end. I’m looking for suggestions but I feel it best to even it out to keep the combustion chambers consistent.
